A Tavern Shanty

Written by George Sanders

(Mons calls out)
It's time to put Mons, in his place they say
(Tavern regulars respond)
It's time to put Mons, in his place they say
It's time to put Mons, in his place they say
But it nev-er seems to hap-pen

(Mons calls out to the tavern)
Well, another round of ale, that might do the trick
(Tavern regulars respond)
Oh, another round of ale, that might do the trick
Oh, another round of ale, that might do the trick
But it nev-er seems to hap-pen

(Mons calls out to his opponent)
Thinks he's a brawler, he'll toss me away
(Tavern regulars respond)
Thinks he's a brawler, he'll toss Mons away
Thinks he's a brawler, he'll toss Mons away
But it nev-er seems to hap-pen

(Mons calls out to his opponent and flexes his arms)
Well, I bet you will bale, because I'm so thick
(Tavern regulars respond)
Or another round of ale, might do the trick
Or another round of ale, might do the trick
But it nev-er seems to hap-pen

(Mons calls out to the tavern)
Rough him up they think, today'll be the day
(Tavern regulars respond)
Rough him up they think, today'll be the day
Rough him up they think, today'll be the day
But it nev-er seems to hap-pen

(Mons calls out to his opponent)
Well, You're lookin' a bit pale, hope you won't be sick
(Tavern regulars respond)
Or another round of ale, might do the trick
Or another round of ale, might do the trick
But it nev-er seems to hap-pen

Tavern Survival Guide

by Fenwick Hillmond

Page 31 from a collection of 50 songs and recipes

Attribution: Mons, tavern champion in Montsilt

Age Estimate: 5yrs ago

Type
Manuscript, Musical

Background: Before Fenwick dreamed of opening his own tavern, he made a few extra coins by selling moonshine to many of the taverns in the region. His wife wasn't sure it was much of a business as he spent most of what he earned. However, he did amass a interesting collection of tavern lore and knowledge. After completing his survival guide he opened his own tavern in Trier.

Mons was the champion at the Holmes Inn at the town of Montsilt. Every Friday was tournament night. Usually wrestling but sometimes just arm wrestling matches were the main event. Mons wasn't undefeated but won enough that he had gotten a reputation and he seized on it. He would lead rowdy tavern shanties before his matches to intimidate his opponents. Fenwick documented several of the shanties, including the one called Rough.
