Setting the Scene

Rules of the World

What are the fundamental differences in the natural laws of your world compared to Earth?
  • Set in the world of Mass Effect, there is interstellar space travel and a higher level of technology available.
  • There are multiple sapient species, and humans are one of the weaker but more innovative.
  • Species may have a variety of extra-normal abilities, including eezo-based biotics, psychic communication, bioelectricity, or various hyper-perceptive senses.
  • Universal translator programs are common, potentially facilitating the speed and ease of interspecies relations.
  • Both known galaxies (Milky Way & Andromeda) are seeded with high technology from previous races, about which varying degrees of information is known.
  • Artificially created races, both organic and synthetic, already exist in these galaxies.

Cosmology

How did this world come to be? The creation of the galaxy is considered to be a natural phenomenon. The Scourge (a large and hazardous geographic feature) is potentially artificially created. The Angara - The Anchored People were created to an unknown degree by another sentient race, the Jardaan, which has only recently been discovered. Its affect on angaran society and religion may be widespread.

Geography

What does the geography of your world look like? Planets and star systems inhabited by the Angara vary widely, including one homeworld dominated by iridescent jungle.   Does your Geography have any special properties or features? Many worlds contain the remnants of a previous civilization, whether Angaran or Jaardan is not entirely clear. The center of the galaxy is a stable black hole.   What is the initial size of your active campaign setting? The Heleus Cluster within the current galaxy, Jave Jaravaeon

People and their History

Who used to live in your active campaign space, and what’s their history? The Angara have only recently defeated the hostile Kett species that was invading their galaxy, and are still coming to terms with discoveries about the previous sentient race the Jardaan.
  • Kett: Hostile invaders that appear to be from another cluster or galaxy. Met the Angara under the auspices of peace, betrayed them and began kidnapping them to fulfill a destructive mission of acquired genetic perfection called Exaltation - Keshirask Nari.
  • Jardaan: Advanced society that appears to have used the Heleus cluster in a large-scale terraforming experiment, including creating at least one sentient race, the Angara.
Which species/cultures live here now and what’s their history?
  • Angara: Hermaphroditic sapient species that was originally seeded and monitored by an advanced civilization, the Jardaan. They inhabited many worlds before the The Scourge, but were separated because of its destruction. They are rebuilding and reconnecting their society after having defeated the Kett with new allies, beginning the Wayli Drokaalen - The Reconnected Years.
  • Andromeda Initiative species: Several sapient species (humans, turians, quarians, krogan, drell and asari) from the Milky Way galaxy. They spent 600 years travelling in cryogenic sleep to arrive here, only to find the worlds they hoped to colonize largely hostile, and two sapient races (Kett and Angara) warring over the cluster.
What do they need, and what do they need from each other? The Angara needed more people and resources to drive out the Kett so that they can re-establish their society. The Andromeda Initiative needs space to colonize this cluster and allies in stabilizing their foothold here in a new place.   They both need the support of the other in researching the Jardaan and Drokaalen - Remnant technology, a key resource for the success of both peoples.
Exaltation - Keshirask Nari

Exaltation, the process by which the Kett transform their captives. Literally: violent theft of spirit
