The Supercities

The 20-odd Supercities, scattered around the globe, in which the last dregs of modern humans are confined by their respective surviving governments.

Demographics

The demographics of the supercities are largely dependant on what region of the world they are located in. Most of the supercities have a large majority of one race, but some of the bigger ones in more diverse countries have more even divisions.

Government

The governments of all of the supercities have one thing in common; suffocating control. The main two types are the Conservative, who want to prevent us from evolving any further and reverting back to our planet-destroying ways, and the Truists, who want to adapt and learn from our mistakes by preparing their people to live beyond the biodomes and retake their place on earth.

Defences

Each Supercity is covered by a biodome, an artificial atmosphere that keeps people in just as well as it keeps harmful gasses out. They are reinforced by carbon fiber and the single entrance is heavily guarded.

Industry & Trade

The government imports resources from outside- the jobs that the rich "depend" on and have "worked hard for" are simply placeholders for a steady routine. They have so many contacts, they don't need them.

Infrastructure

The biodome filters pure oxygen through filters. The people have been breathing pure oxygen so long, they can't even go outside, just the way the government wants it. Resources are imported from the outside world, and there is little to no communication between the supercities.

Assets

Some Supercities are more advanced than others; all have the basic needs of a city and biodome.

Guilds and Factions

Usually, a small section of the city is an uptown area, composed of fancy houses and buildings and populated by those rich enough to buy themselves a place in the future. They all have jobs and housing, oblivious to the suffering of the outside world. The majority of the city, however, is a downtown area; everyone is poor, and the government gives them nothing besides occasional supply drops to avoid riots. The whole area is taken over and divided by gangs. It is populated by people who won the random lottery to go into hypersleep; they had nothing when they woke up.

History

During the Solis Occasum, governments all around the world were panicking. There were chaos and apocalyptic cults rising and taking over huge parts of their countries. So all of the major governments in the world pooled their technology and created the supercities. In order to keep humans alive for an undetermined amount of time, the invented a method of hypersleep inspired by a girl with a condition that caused her head to grow, while the rest of her body stayed as an infant. With a study of medical records from when she was alive, they managed to create a version of this condition that could be transmuted by replacing the blood in a person's body with a chemical substance, making them not grow at all. When they need to be awakened, their blood is pumped back into them, flushing out the artificial condition and allowing them to grow once more. The Supercities were rigged to wake up their inhabitants after oxygen levels in the atmosphere reached a certain point. Many humans died in the process.

Architecture

The Supercities are enclosed by a huge biodome, pure steel, encased by a layer of carbon fiber to prevent rusting. The beams are in a honeycomb pattern with polycarbonate windows in between. Not only that, but there are two huge oxygen filters that draw air in from the outside and purify it embedded in the top of the dome. All of the uptown houses are beautifully built, whereas the downtown area resembles the overpopulated areas of Hong Kong after the Umbrella Revolution.

Geography

They are located everywhere from what's left of Florida to the middle of the Russian wilderness. Most are near a water source; some draw water from the air, but only the small ones.

Natural Resources

Supplies are brought in sparingly from the outside world. Absolutely nobody is allowed to man these missions except robots, controlled at a station in the city with AI.
Alternative Name(s)
The Holy Cities, the cities of the Trues, The Incubators, etc. Each person that knows of them (the number is few) has a different name.
Type
Large city
Population
Each city can hold roughly 200,000 people, though most hold below 50,000.
Inhabitant Demonym
The first inhabitants were the modern humans who slept in hypercells for over 1,500 years, until they began to wake up around 3,550 B.C. All of the humans who survived hypersleep were awoken by 2550 A.D. They call themselves "Recta-Humans" or "Trues".

How did these humans have access to such advanced technology before the common era?
