Warground of the Gods
Wargrounds are not what one might assume. Most would think a Warground is the place where a great battle has taken place, the aftermath of War itself, but in reality it is where one trains for War. Recruits who sign on to the Military in most nations are immediately sent to the Wargrounds, where they are prepared physically and mentally for war.
One's education begins with the physical preparation of Recruits, weapon drills, endurance training and the like to build skill and muscle. After a six-month period, the majority of recruits are assigned as entry-level infantry in their respective military. However those recruits who show further promise, be it physically or mentally are usually moved into further training. This comprises of more than just physical training, but lessons in geography, tactics and strategy, military history and leadership. Weapon specializations are also taught at this time, where a recruit may learn to use more than just the spear, sword and bow. Instead at this point they may be trained in all manner of martial arts, from crossbow to battleaxe.
There is no set graduation to Warfront for these special recruits. Usually those who show such promise are graduated as soon as their instructors deem them worthy, or else see that the recruit has reached the end of their learning capability. The longest time ever spent in a Warground was 2 years, by the noteworthy Hero Alonzo the Wise, who refused to leave before he'd learned everything his War-Master was willing to teach him.
Greatest of all these Wargrounds and Warmasters however, is the God of War himself, Horus. In his Warground, only the greatest are trained. Those recruits who show great promise are recommended to the God, and from those recommendations he hand-picks those who he will teach. The conditions at his school are grueling, even moreso than at the harshest of Rusun ones, for the Warground of the Gods as it is called, lies deep within the desert at an oasis of ancient power.
There, Horus trains those who he believes will become the future of Ancharia's military power, be they ones who will become leaders and generals in their nations or heroes to them all. With training in Advanced Tactics, as well as martial instruction from the God of War himself leaves most recruits with skills far beyond their peers. Nothing can account for experience, but those who graduate from the Warground of the Gods leave as the most prepared for War a recruit can possibly be.
That is not to say The Warground of the Gods has a 100% graduation rate, far from it in fact. Often those who are picked cannot keep up with the physical exhaustion they feel at nearly all times. Those who fail physically are almost always kicked out, often unceremoniously. There are a few brilliant minds with lacking bodies Horus keeps on, but such a thing is a once in a century event.
Even of those who are expelled from the Warground of the Gods, often go on to distinguish themselves in some manner, as Mercenaries, or with their military, though rarely as Heroes, for being accepted into the Warground of the Gods is one of the highest honors available to any mortal.
Architecture
The Warground of the Gods is laid out like most Wargrounds. A large barracks for the recruits, a smithy, a bathhouse and a Great Hall where the instructors and officers reside, as well as where the mess-hall and other offices are held. All this is in the center of a huge training ground with areas for weapon drills, practice fights, archery, horseback riding
History
The Origin of the Warground of the Gods traces back to the final days of the Great Invasion. As the final battles marked a close to the War, Horus, the God of War himself set forth to create a school that would create warriors of great skill. Warriors that could fight better than any other Human, Dwarf, Elf or Werebeast.
The result of his labors over the next decade was the Warground of the Gods. A Warground capable of training quality over quantity, for while it could only accept a few dozen recruits at the time, the results were usually extraordinary, and despite Horus's often absence, the chosen teachers who worked under him continued on his style of training, turning already powerful fighters into nigh-unstoppable warriors.
