Vaenoth's Bane

Vainoth's Bane is a weapon of great renown, wielded by many heroes in ages past, both Elven and Human. The weapon is a Greatsword of Man's design and Elvish construction. Made just at the tipping point in the war, it was first given to the hero Rogan Trollbane. After slaying three trolls singlehandedly in battle, the Warlord King Tegan appointed him a Champion of the Realm and commissioned the weapon from the Deep Elves. Upon being gifted the weapon, Rogan's reputation as a Troll-slaying-specialist only grew until finally he was slain in the Battle of Blood Marsh along with a thousand other heroes of legend.   The Blade passed into obscurity until it was fished from the marsh by Relic Seekers two centuries after the Great War fully ended, and another 3 before the first Elf War was launched into action. The Blade passed in time from owner to owner until finally it got it's name, wielded by a Goldcloak of Rusia, Eagor the Hunter, known for seeking specific foes in battle. It became known as Vainoth's Bane after Eagor used the weapon to personally slay each and every member of the family of Queen Vainoth Shattersoul, then Queen of the Dark Elves beneath the earth. The Queen herself was run through with the weapon so powerfully that it embedded itself in the stone wall, pinning the dying Elf to it. There it stayed for another century, as a monument to the end of the first Elf-War.   When the 2nd war rose, so did the blade, passed down once more from wielder to wielder until it was lost again in the 14th Elf War. Finally it made it's way back into the hands of a wielder, Vainoth's Bane came into the hands of Mergoux the Butcher, found by her in her 3rd decade of life. She wields it still today, killing those she deems evil with the ancient weapon.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Vainoth's Bane is enchanted with the following.   Durability: As with almost all Magickal weapons, Vainoth's Bane is enchanted to withstand the tests of time. It cannot be damaged by mortal means, does not rust and can only be broken by a powerful spellcaster or extreme heat, like that of a Dwarvish forge or a Volcano.   Eversharpness: Vainoth's Bane is also enchanted to never require sharpening, a useful trick as a blade having seen as much use as this would have been worn thin by many a thousand sharpenings by now.   Elfbane: This gift was granted to the weapon after it's construction, as a result of the blade gaining it's name, Vainoth's Bane was blessed by Horus, though some would call it a curse. The weapon became highly effective against Dark Elves, wounds dealt to that race by the weapon being harder to close than wounds dealt with another blade. Rare was it that a Dark Elf did not succumb to a wound dealt by Vainoth's Bane.

Ancient in design, weapons like these are no longer constructed, the secrets of their making having been long since lost. This weapon represents a bygone era in metalsmithing and cannot ever be remade or imitated.
