Basic Information

Anatomy

The slug-cat is a fey touched creature that resemble more of a weasel than a slug or a cat. The cat can have any color fur,due to pigmentation magic that allows for rapid color changing of the fur, though they usually are simple white. The slug-cat are long and slender, with small arms and legs that allow it to squeeze through narrow spaces. They have soft short fur with a tail that is hard to distinguish from the main body due to it blending well. They have two large black eyes as well as a cat-like nose and cat-like mouth. The have two dog-like ears that they can have either sag or come up to be alert for danger.

Genetics and Reproduction

The slug cat has a standard mammalian reproduction cycle, birthing a litter of 2-5 pups after 5 months of pregnancy.

Growth Rate & Stages

The slug cat reaches adulthood pretty quickly, at around a year after birth, but can reach ages of up to 30 years.

Ecology and Habitats

The slug-cats quick wit and intelligence allow it to survive well in most habitats, but prefer the fey touched regions of Elgarest due to being a half-fey creature itself. The slug-cat usually build small burrows in these habitats wherever it chooses to stay, where it collects trinkets, food, and protects it's young.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The slug-cat is an omnivore, who can climb trees and to try and pick the fruit or dig out fungus or vegetable. It is also a decent predator, mostly ambushing or out-maneuvering bats, frogs, birds, mice, and snakes. The slug-cat will sometimes store food in its burrow if winter is near.

Biological Cycle

The slug-cat hibernates during the winter time in Elgarest, where it hides in it's burrow and slumbers after fattening itself up, similar to a bear. Sometimes, they will break hibernation to scavenge for food, though this is rare. Uniquely, some domestic slug-cats or slug-cats that live in hot climates do not hibernate, suggesting it is a choice to hibernate rather than instinct.

Behaviour

The slug-cat is extremely mischievous and curious, often running up to humanoids to steal or beg from them or annoying other creatures just for the sake of it. They are also extremely clever, often planting traps or memorizing routes to escape after stealing something. Slug-cats are usually friendly to most humanoids, often to a fault, but most of the time the steal from them to incite chase for play. This behavior gets slug-cats killed for their pelts and alchemical use most of the time sadly.
