Isfa

Isfa is the name of the capital and country settled within the Cunab basin. Prior to the Awakening, Isfa was governed by the Holy Order of Isfa which sat at the Seat of Order.   After the Seat of Order is broken and Illiam Castell dies, the government is replaced by followers of Dahiel, believing that a greater Order exists. Isfa would change incrementally, but maintain itself as a trading hub.

Government

Found by the Champion-King Illiam Castell, Isfa is a theocracy. Illiam Castell would consult with the Seat of Order, bound to Zakil, for direction. Illiam Castell would be supported by the clergy, which includes the High Priests, Priests, Auditors, Arcanists, Clerics, and Salves. The high priests inform the king of the matters of the kingdom. Priests officiate the practices of the Holy Order, fill municipal offices, and support the high Priests. Arcanists act in roles ranging from Auditors to Scholars. The clerics practice in the temples, practicing rites and serving the people who come to the temples. They also visit neighboring areas and fill military duties. Salves are used by each of the above to fulfill their needs.   The duties of the High Priests   High Priests have shown a long allegiance to the Seat of Order. On occasion, some may have sat at the Seat of Order to bask in its wake. High Priests will have served for most of their lives in various capacities as a Priest or Arcanist and, of course, a Salve. While the place of High Priest may be desirable, serving directly under Illiam Castell is time consuming. The work of Order is unending, especially in times of chaos. Thus, the duties of the High Priests is to fill the halls of Isfa with knowledge. This is not knowledge gathered from books, but that gathered from the people. High-Priests are often directed to govern regions of Isfa proper. Others serve the Eir Astri while maintaining a permanent presence in Isfa.   Duties of a Priest Priests are well known throughout Isfa. They are commonly seen in the streets moving between buildings. As general administrators, the Priests coordinate many mercantile, military, and civic duties. While one Priest might serve as a general in the military, another may oversee the expansion of the sewer system. However, in the citadel of Isfa, they are the same.   Priests are chosen for their duties by the high priests. Historically, this has always been filled with esteem. However, during the Awakening, certain priests would be given positions that they should not have been given. During would be the first signs of disorder that would cause the fall of Illiam Castell.   Duties of the Arcanists   While arcanists were first believed to act against Order, it was found that by understanding the foundation that order and laws are maintained. Arcanists serve throughout Isfa, transcribing, practicing, and teaching arcane arts. The two main residences for the Arcanists are the Langevin Academy and The Grand Arcanum in Isfa. However, many Arcanists struggle with oaths of Order, though feel a strong desire to serve. These will become the Auditors. Auditors are skilled practitioners of discernment to root out dissent within Isfa. This is supported by magical prowess at manipulating thought and speech.       Salve   Drawn to the clergy for personal reasons, the Salve finds duties under the direction of the higher offices.

Infrastructure

Isfa was constructed by a river, serving the light water that would supply much of Isfa's growth. The first building in Isfa was the temple that would be the footsteps to the citadel. The stone was made from limestone from the quarries to the west and the mine Jahir-mila. Jahir-Mila would be critical in the mining of ore and stone for the construction of Isfa. For hundreds of years, the stone of Jahir-mila was harvested and brought to Isfa. Over time, the extent of the mine would be collosal (See Jahir-mila).   The city would be built with a grand promenade. A walkway would be clear in front of the temple that was the width of the doorway to the temple. The doorway to the temple is
