The Curator is a position that belongs to the highest of the Records. They possess the ultimate authority of the Empire's Archives.
The Records were founded with the belief that the end of an era should not be the end of everything that era had learned. They believe that they should be capturing all the information in the world that matters and preserving it for the end of time. When a record is written it is submitted to The Curator and that individual makes the ultimate decision if the information makes it into The Archives. This mean The Curator is responsible for History as it will be understood in future eras. Many believe that he is responsible for what is true and what is not. The future does not have time to understand multiple sides of an issue, only truth. Only that which can be proven.
There has only been a single Curator to this point, founded with the empire, Ibn al-Haytham has served for nearly 100 years. He is old and there are many political factions in the Records who desire his seat once he abdicates or dies.
Initially the title was given without much thought, but many now speculate how much maneuvering would be needed before the next arrives. It appears that religions, specifically, have the most interest in what gets written into the annuls of history. The Emperor himself also takes interest in what is written and the replacement might not be someone as kind as Ibn al-Haytham as been to the fresh rulers.
