Chapter 2: Undead and Family
Agreeing to take the task presented by the duke the party returned to the inn for the night with their new companion, a human named Aldrich, planning to meet with Lord Devlman in the morning. Arriving at the cemetery the party found the crypt where the undead was coming from, but the two glyphs of warding injured the party to the point that they had to retire before even starting. Coming back the next day the party and Devlman made their way down into the crypt and cleared out the undead. In the deepest parts they discovered Tash's mom being held captive by a tiefling who looked a lot like Lord Delvman, this it turned out was his son Bowlin Devlman Jr. A fight broke out during which a powerful spell killed Tash and another drained Aldrich's intelligence, though with the help of Devlman Sr they defeated his son, who upon dying vanished in a burst of fire.
Leaving the crypt they found Tash's father and the family were once more reunited, and with this Tash left to return to his home, but not before giving the bag of holding with the parties stuff to a random bard named Roy who joined the party. During the next few days in the city, Kreig stated that it was time to continue on his own journey and left. During this time of rest, they discovered that not all was well, as an unknown disease swept the populace and proved resistant to magical healing. Meeting up with a ceric from Aldrich's holy order named Messer the party set out upriver on the behest of the duke to find the source of the disease.
This turned out to be a large group of undead in the ruins of Niflheim and the surrounding mountains. Battling with the undead the party got careless and while the scouting alone Messer was overwhelmed and killed. Though having slain the bulk of undead the party sent word for the local cities to send clerics and paladins to cleanse the land while they pressed on leaving Kairon to wait for the clerics. Soon after leaving the town they ran into a dwarf named Ruger and a tabaxi named Muzu who decided to accompany the party.
As they neared the mountain lake they noticed the land was dying and encountered more powerful undead and unfortunately in a fight with an undead beholder Aldrich lost his life and was reduced to fine gray ash. A short time later they stumbled upon an elf named Alpine who claimed to have just arrived from the Feywild. Pressing on to the lake they fought a very powerful undead creature who was the cause of the illness. After fighting through their own fear they managed to slay the creature.
Finished with the task the party started to make their way back to town. The trip was peaceful but as they neared the great city of Enalenor they were set upon by the man from earlier who claimed to have killed Kreig's family. Though he not recognized by the current travelers he proceeded to try and rob the party. They fought to protect their goods but underestimated their foe. During the fighting, Roy fell and while holding his sword against Roy's neck the man demanded they surrender or he would kill him. This was responded to by Alpine firing two eldritch blasts at the man who proceeded to stab his sword into Roy killing him. The party realizing they couldn't win grabbed Roy's body and raced on horseback to Enalenor where Roy was from.
Here it was learned that Roy's mother had not survived the plague and this his father, a djinn, and returned home to pay his respects. Learning the fate of his son he thanked the party for returning the body and offered them a favor which was immediately used by Muzu to wish Roy back to life, though not without some consequences for himself. The party was then brought the rest of the way to Danta by teleportation for a festival that was held in their honor.
