Hearken to the songs of the stars
Consider the weight of time
Ponder over the spheres
Watch how the firmament turns
Primordials are a group of eternals comprised of the
gods themselves and
titans, their divine servants.
The
Empyreal Gods are mostly a family of divine beings. Having harnessed the
powers of creation, they have been able to shape the
Universe to their will and even create new forms of life -- the titans among them. Of key importance to their nature as gods is the cosmic mechanism of
Divinity that grants religious entities increasing levels of power based on the degree of their worship. Various dark and evil entities have been able to tap into this cosmic mechanism, making themselves into gods and growing dangerously powerful thanks to their endless legions of eager followers in the countless worlds of the cosmos.
Titans are created by the Empyreal Gods, their bodies shaped from nothing with powerful magic and then given
souls from the
Animus -- a mythical artifact guarded closely by
Anthos, the God of Death. Titans are not granted the ability to reproduce, and thus their numbers are only replenished when the gods create more of them.
Dark Titans. Lacking the power of the Animus, no cosmic power other than the Empyreals of Ulthgard are able to create sentience at will. Thus their artificially created servants are not considered
titans but merely
golems. However, some endeavoring villains have managed to, in the past, steal the Animus from the Empyreals, allowing them to create whatever twisted and evil lifeforms they wished. Other dark powers capture and imprison Empyreal titans, subjecting them to various terrible methods of "persuasion". Such unfortunate titans can be converted, mind-controlled or otherwise corrupted to serve a new master. These
dark titans can be terrifying foes to the Empyreals in the
Divine Conflict, but they must be deployed carefully, for they are, of course, often greatly outnumbered by their uncorrupted kin.
