Thalassoniki

Thalassoniki is a Westerling expedition base situated right at precipice of the World's Edge, the lightless expanse of ice that encompasses the Circle of the World. Situated at the easternmost point of land in Westara, Thalassoniki was a significant Minarran military port before the Age of Apocalypse. After the breaking of the sun and the freezing of half the world, it has become a major staging ground for expeditions that set out westwards into the World's Edge in search of treasures buried under the ice in the lands of Old Isatia.
In the War of the Seven Lances, a large-scale military conflict involvin nearly all geopolitical powers of The West, the then-Minarran city saw two major battles that left its defenses and civil infrastructure in severe disrepair. Most inhabitants of Thalassoniki fled the war eastwards. As Isatian conquest into wester Minarra continued, only a small Isatian garrison was left to hold Thalassoniki. Thus when the catastrophies of the Age of Apocalypse began, the city was only a skeleton of its former shelf.
As the Isatians fled their freezing homeland following the breaking of the sun, Thalassoniki became a critical thoroughfare. Its population swelled with Isatian refugees, but as the climate kept on cooling in the fringe regions of the Circle of the World, most people continued their way eastwards towards warmer regions.
Nowadays Thalassoniki has a population of a few hundred. They are the hardiest and most subborn of survivalists tasked with maintaining their frozen ruin of a home as an outpost for glacial expeditions. They build and maintain the ice-faring transports of Westerlings, stockpile supplies, maintain lodgings for travellers, and keep a watchul eye on The Glacier for any encroaching dangers.
