Nyx
Nyx is the Goddess of Darkness and Sorrow. Her domain over darkness makes her an evil deity in certain cultures, which associate her with nocturnal beasts, monsters and nighttime acts of villany. Conversely, other cultures see her as a benevolent god due to her domain over sorrow; her priests typically work to alleviate suffering and to aid the bereaved overcome their grief.
Loss and grief are natural and inevitable parts of life for any mortal, and most people find the time to offer prayers to Nyx sooner or later. Few people choose to devote their entire lives to Nyx however, and her clerics and paladins are indeed quite rare. The goddess grants her servants power the mind as well as over the horrible creatures from dark and twisted dimensions, such as shadow demons, dark elementals and undead.
The Church of Nyx is an antiquated religion with long history and traditions. Their main teachings revolve around solitude, austerity and self-learning, and these teachings are often passed on through studies of their religious works and bi-weekly temple visits. The church's teachings come from the religious texts of "The Laws of Koxendo", a treatise told to have been written by a demi-god as a gift to mankind at the beginning of time. All of their religious symbols are represented in the form of sculptures, paintings and decorated buildings. Being an old religion, the church has fractured into different variations, such as the Disciples of Nyx in Caraegwyn, but they remain peaceful toward each other. The worship of Nyx is often met with indifference by those outside of this religion.
