Lionel Pendragon

Lord Lionel Pendragon was the younger brother of King Ulric III Pendragon. Throughout his life he accomplished little in the way of chivalrous deeds and mostly managed to bring shame upon the royal house with his poorly concealed gambling and drunken misdeeds. Lionel was assassinated in secrecy by Queen Ismyll Pendragon in 2501 ER.

History

Childhood and early adulthood

Even from a very young age, the two princes Lionel and Ulric were like night and day. The older Ulric was everyone's favorite: bright, social, athletic and eager. As heir apparent, he was groomed by their parents to rule the kingdom and was afforded every opportunity to better himself. The younger Lionel, however, only every seemed to be able to dissappoint their parents. He was inferior to his older brother in every pursuit, and grew bitter for a lack of parental love and guidance.
Perhaps it was the neglect that he survived in childhood that made Lionel lack any ambition as an adult. While his brother was well on his way to being the perfect successor to the Summer Throne, Lionel spent his days drinking, gambling and womanizing. Why should a member of the royal family need to bear responsibilites of any kind, for aren't they guaranteed lives of luxury regardless?

Continued disgrace and consequent death

Lionel's deplorable behaviour continued even to his senior years. At the age of 50 he had never married and had never held any kind of respectable position in a public office or a private enterprise. His lecherous debauchery was, unfortunately, well known to all of the realm, for Lionel did not always manage to shame himself behind closed doors. His brother -- now king -- did attempt to curtail his sordid festivities by various methods, but Lionel seemed quite irredeemable.
Lionel's fate was sealed when Queen Ismyll the Beloved learned of his secret affair with her daughter princess Gweósin Pendragon -- Lionel's niece. The queen was deeply troubled to find that the princess was, in fact, quite enamored with her uncle, and she spared no expense to keep the affair a secret. With the help of her loyal damsels and some tight-lipped adventurers, the Queen was able to convince Lionel that the affair could not continue and he was smuggled abroad to Tyria without even King Ulric knowing about the operation. Unknown to the kind-hearted adventurers, however, the ruthless queen had her damsels secure the services of the most expensive Tyrian assassins. Lord Lionel dissappeared without a trace in the city of Thelereg.
