House Pendragon
The ancient line of kings and queens of the Summer Kingdom, magically bound to the very land they rule
Great men are known by their deeds.House Pendragon is the royal family that has ruled Caraegwyn since its founding in 1740 ER. Indeed, the history of their bloodline is the history of the Crown itself. Both draconic and fey blood runs in the family, and heirs of their legendary dynasty are always blessed with gifts of might and magic. Contents
Enchanted lineage
The Pendragons are eternally spellbound to the very realm they govern by an ancient incantation cast as the last breath of the dying demigod Lugh, daughter of the Goddess of Summer herself. Whomever of the Pendragon bloodline is anointed to bear the weight of the Golden Crown must also witness their own health and sanity reflected in the very seasons of the land. Should madness or disease plague the reigning monarch, the flora and fauna of Caraegwyn lanquish in storms and pestilence; whereas a healthy and hale ruler brings about sunlit days and plentiful harvests. The death of a ruler is always followed by it a long period of miserable weather. For this boon the rule of the Pendragons has remained uncontested by other nobility, and the family -- as well as their rule -- is considered to be favored by the Empyreal Gods.Culture
Heraldry
The supremacy of House Pendragon is made known with their heraldic flair; the royal coat of arms is much more richly detailed than that of any other house, and certain symbolic elements are reserved for the royal family alone. One example of this is the symbol of a dragon -- no other noble house of Caraegwyn may use the likeness of a dragon as their sigil. The symbol is a remnant of ancient times, for the myths of the nation's founding describe scions of House Pendragon riding to war atop mighty dragons that laid waste to entire armies. Indeed, the very name Pendragon can be translated from a dead dialect of Caéled to mean dragonrider.
