Elvish is the ancient language of the
elves. It is descended from
Sylvan, the language of the fey, and exists today as several distinct dialects that correspond to the elven subraces and their histories.

Dialects
The dialects of Elvish are as diverse as the elven race. Every elven ethnicity has their own unique way of using and speaking the language; some dialects are similar to each other while others are greatly different.
The two most similar dialects are
Mendari Elvish and
Aendari Elvish, spoken by the
grey elves and
wood elves respectively. These two culturally different ethnicities have dwelt on Amanor amongst the other mortal races and with regular contact with one another, and their dialects of Elvish have identical morphology and phonology. Differences are found mainly in vocabulary, but speakers of these two dialects can usually communicate with one another very easily. These two dialects also have a vast array of sub-dialects distributed geographically, for both grey elves and wood elves populate the entire vast breadth of the known world.
The
high elves of
Ellondoth speak so-called
Ellandari Elvish. which has developed from a fusion of Mendari and Aendari dialects that were spoken in Ellondoth some 3,000 years ago. These ancient populations have effectively merged together in the time since, and the high elves of today have been isolated from the rest of the world, self-quarantined to their own nation indefinitely. Ellandari Elvish is notably different from common forms of Elvish in most grammatical aspects.
