The Loss of the Treasures

Summary

With the union of the four Tuatha de Danaan cities of Falias, Findias, Gorias, and Murias, each city created a powerful Arkane artefact to represent their contribution to the unified people under the goddess Dana.   Falias, the home of Druidecht, the power to draw from the deep wellsprings of magikal energy, brought the Coire Dagdae, the Cauldron of the Dagda, a giant cauldron that would never fail to satisfy any who ate from it, providing an unending supply of food.   Findias, the city of Fáitsine, the art of prophetically ascertaining the possibilities of fate and the future, gave the Gae Assail, the Spear of Lugh, the reality bending weapon of inevitablity.   Gorias, the city of Fis the ability to bring a discrete truth, brought the Lia Fáil, the stone of destiny, that would proclaim the name of the next Ruler of the Tuatha De Danaan.   Murias, the city of Amainsecht, the art of arkane eloquence, brought the Claíomh Solais, the Sword of Light.   The four gifts were presented to the chosen King of the Tuatha de Danaan and handed down as a new king rose to power, and the four cities were unified.   With the Tearing of the Great Veil, the Lia Fáil was lost, the Tuatha de Danaa unable to appoint a new ruler. Strife followed as the people were split into the Courts of Summer and Winter, ruled by the primordial sister-queens of the seasons and Emain Ablach fell into war, with the Queens turning their attention to conquest of the world thrust into their world.   In the East, a new force emerged in the form of the Erlking, a Sidhe Lord as alien to the Tuatha de Danaan of the Fortunate Isles as the Bediz. Gradlon Mwar, King of Kernev and Riotham, King of Logres led their armies the armies of the Queens of Summer and Winter. The Alliance of the Broceliande was formed to confront to Erlking's armies.   Muldumarec, the Champion of the Sidhe was chosen to represent the Children of Dana, and recover the Lia Fáil. To accomplish this, the Knight was granted the other three treasures, setting out to battle the King of the East with an Ambaxtoi of allies from each group. These were:   Sir Redcrosse, the Champion of Logres Sir Guyon the Chosen of Ys) , Lady Britomart, the champion of Anjev, Sir Roland , the Norman, champion of Gallia Sir Ruggiero, Warrior of the Sands, Champion of County of Tolosa Sir Satyrane, Champion of Akitainia Sir Scudamor, Champion of Arle Lady Amoret, Champion of Normaundie Queen Malgven, of Fjallkonan Colin Clout, Champion of the Korrigan   The 9 Champions led their armies to Rocamadour, to battle the Erlking and his Formorian allies. After a pitched battle, the Alliance of the Broceliande was triumphant, but at the cost of many of their comrades, including Muldumarec. The treasures of the Tuatha de Danaan were lost to the ages, remaining undiscovered to this day, leaving the Seelie and Unseelie Sidhe in a state of conflict. The Erlking was driven back to the Dark Forest, but the alliance was fractured. Within the decade, Ys was destroyed, driven beneath the sea as Gradlon turned on his Fae allies. 50 years after Ys, Camelot was captured by the Queen of Summer. In the Western Realms, the Southern Church driving opinion against the Sidhe and Korrigan.   The loss of the Treasures continues to be a divide both between the Sidhe themselves and between the peoples of the two worlds.

Spread

The legend is foundational within the Western Realms and Faerie, although it has been warped in Bedouar by 1000 years of historical revision and prejudice, passed on through art, ballads and oral tradition.

Variations & Mutation

In Bedouar, the Faith has revised the legend into an alliance of the human peoples against Faerie, placing the Witches of Fjallkonan, the Korrigan and the Sidhe Courts on the Erlking's side of the battle, linking a betrayal by these groups to the falls of Ys and Camelot, the most pro-faerie factions among the Bediz kingdoms.   Among the Fae, the tale is more purely presented, but the loss of the Treasures and death of Muldumarec is presented as a failing of his Bediz allies, and the quick downfall of the Alliance as evidence of the fickleness of humanity.
