Gods of Chaos

Higher beings would point out that even the storms and earthquakes that plague mortals are the result of well orchestrated forces beyond mortal comprehension, but this matters little to the gods of chaos (who might capriciously fashion a storm just to prove a point). Fire, destruction, metal, chance, dangerous artifice and more fall under the purview of these gods, who claim not only wild clerics but many sorcerers as devotees. Though most of these deities lean chaotic, Chaos itself is prone to more exceptions than others.   Hera - Queen of Olympus. Domains: Ambition, Life, Trickery Known as a champion of women and fierce opponent of patriarchal structures, tales of her subjugation in goblin texts have yet to take root or displace her prolific cult, which stretches through much of the world. Hera represents a blend of older, primitive matriarchies with notions of civilization, and is revered by elves, humans, and dragonborn. She leans Chaotic Neutral.   Hathor - Goddess of Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘n Roll. Domains: Arcana, Light, Nature Representative of fermentation (which some sages and most drunkards agree is the reason for civilization in the first place), Hathor is the spirit of celebration, love, drinking, and music. She is much beloved by bards and has a prolific following among lower classes. She leans Chaotic Good.   Hermes - The Messenger, and Psychopomp. Domains: Ambition, Grave, Trickery A god of messages and also transformation and transition, Hermes guides souls to the underworld and is looked up to by all those who don’t fit neatly into society. He is a frequent fixture of cults, and leans true Neutral.   Epona - Goddess of Horses. Domains: Life, Nature, War Goddess of horses, Epona started life as a wood elf but her popularity swiftly spread through the Empire and orcs. So important are horses, that Epona’s cult has spread out to healing, protection, and livestock. She leans Chaotic Neutral.   Crom - God of Steel. Domains: Forge, Knowledge, War, Zeal If you die, you have to go before him, and he will ask you, 'What is the riddle of steel?' If you don't know it, he will cast you out of Valhalla and laugh at you. He is a chthonic god who lives in the earth, and his most devout followers understand the truth of the riddle; flesh grows weak, steel grows brittle, but will is indomitable. Crom leans Neutral.   Thor - God of Thunder, Protector, God of Agriculture. Domains: Strength, Tempest, War Similar in many ways to Mars, Thor is invoked for protection from storms more often, making him a staple of rural towns and cities. Thor also values individual prowess over formations of soldiers, further setting him and Mars apart. He leans Neutral.   Daikoku - God of Luck, Households, and Wealth. Domains: Life, Trickery Popular among households in civilized areas, Daikoku represents abundance of wealth and in the kitchen; rats are favored by him, and indicate excess food. One of the traditions among his worshippers is that theft of a religious icon while not being caught will bring a year of good fortune; stalls selling small statues of the god are common around the time of the New Year. He leans Chaotic Good.   Raijin - The Thunder God. Domains: Tempest, Trickery, War Known not only for thunder and lightning, Raijin can be mischievous, but also defends shrines and temples. A few centuries ago, a combined force of orcs, dragonborn, and humans broke through continental Rokugani lands and tried to invade the Imperial islands by sea; a massive typhoon that no druid or cleric could stop swept down and shattered their flotilla. Raijin is an extremely important god for the Rokugani, and leans Chaotic Good.   Kali - Goddess of Destruction, the Wild, and the Beginning. Domains: Life, Nature, War No less than a facet of the Great Mother herself, Kali is a protector, watching over her flock, over nature, and the destructive impulses of the world itself. When a powerful demon arose who created a clone of himself whenever a drop of his blood hit the ground, Kali drank his blood dry and ate his clones to defeat him. She is a primal deity, and leans Neutral.   Tāne - God of the Birds and Reptiles. Domains: Forge, Knowledge, Nature, Solidarity Worshipped primarily by inhabitants of the islands in the Pacific, this god is in opposition to the sea; while the ocean resents him for hiding some of its children (reptiles), Tāne brought knowledge with him on how to forge implements the islanders need, such as canoes, nets, knives, and so on. Air breathers make offerings when crossing into the oceanic domain, and sea elves among the isles propitiate Tāne when business takes them to the surface. He leans true Neutral.   Moradin - God of dwarves and the forge. Domains: Forge, Order, Strength, War Another claimant to the title of Father of the Dwarves, Moradin and Aulë have a (mostly) friendly rivalry stretching back centuries. Prominent deities are typically replaced by someone who assumes their name and much of their identity when the time comes, and Moradin may have split from Aulë millennia past. Regardless of the truth, both gods have many followers among the dwarves, with more martially inclined dwarves preferring Moradin. He leans Lawful Good.   Gruumsh - God of the orcs and strength. Domains: Strength, Tempest, War, Zeal The first ancestor, Gruumsh, is said to have formed himself when lightning struck a dead tree. He sired the orc race with the Great Mother herself, producing the mighty ancestors of orc legend, who still constitute a mini-pantheon for the orcs and their totems. Orcs tend to venerate totems, ancestors, Gruumsh, the Great Mother, and few other deities besides (though the cult of Epona has gained a following).   Surtur - God of Fire and Destruction. Domains: Ambition, Strength, Tempest, War Some whisper that Surtur is not a true god but a fragment of a primordial that gained self-awareness, and represents the greater being which spawned it. Surtur does answer the prayers of his cult, and is popular among fire giants, as well as other peoples who must contend with fiery environs. He leans Chaotic Neutral.   Tezcatlipoca - God of Sorcery and Obsidian. Domains: Arcana, Forge, Nature, Trickery Referred to as the Smoking Mirror, Tezcatlipoca is a harsh god favored by inhabitants of jungles in volcanic regions. Obsidian crafting is still practiced in many parts of the world, and shamans value his insights as much as sorcerers and warlocks. He leans Chaotic Evil.   Auahitūroa - God of Comets and Fire. Domains: Forge, Knowledge Before skyships grew to prominence, sea vessels plied the ocean lanes, and the humans and elves of the Pacific were the most prolific. Their god of comets who brought fire to the earth became the patron of skyships when they were developed, and around the world, shrines to Auahitūroa oversee their construction. He leans Lawful Neutral.   Hazoret - God-Survivor and Mother. Domains: Life, Nature, War Zeal The last surviving god of Amonkhet is trying desperately to protect her flock. The last main city of this dying world has been consumed by chaos, with every other god slain by a powerful elder dragon. Some have taken to worshipping her on other worlds, but refugees from Amonkhet are few, and most still shun the world.
