The Mace of Vaegoum

Known by the name it whispers, The Mace of Vaegoum is an ancient weapon of unknown origins, many claim it to be the work of ancient mages but others believe it may have been forged by a Ðíos or even Phoaðos.
Taking on a crude form, the large mace has a relatively thick handle and shaft, which blow out into a thorny head. The head features a variety of large holes which suggest a hollow structure, although, their depth is obscured by an impenetrable shadow they cast on themselves. The head of the mace also appears to have pitting, as from rust; however, due to its ancient nature and the absence of any actual rust, it is most likely the result of magic.
The most interesting, or perhaps terrifying aspect of the mace is its curse. Anyone who gazes upon it can tell it's of a sinister nature, with its very presence chilling the air and bones of those nearby. Some also claim to have heard it whisper, with the most discernable word being Vaegoum. Yet, many are drawn to it as the mace desires to be wielded. If an individual comes close enough, the mace seemingly bursts to life, with ghostly blue flames erupting from it, taking hold of the victim. While there are stories of powerful individuals who have resisted it, most fall under its possession. The possessed are directed to satiate the maces power, wielding it against all others as it drinks the souls of those it kills. The longer an individual wields the mace the more it also corrupts them, twisting their soul and turning them into a lich like abomination. While some suggest it's the final stage of the wielders corruption, others have claimed that they saw the mace being wielded by a ghostly apparition as if the very souls it's absorbed took it upon themselves to continue satiating the maces thirst.
