Silver Shoes

One of the fairy tales that Aria started reading to Maximilian, when she was their guardian.

Summary

The Silver Shoes is a story about a girl who wants her mother's silver shoes. She is warned about it's power, and knows that she is not of age to inherit them, but she wants it anyway. The Silver Shoes, put bluntly, is a tragedy.

Historical Basis

There has been a suspicion that the story is linked to the Ruby Red Slippers, but historically speaking, the Silver Shoes was known first. Any theories that the Ruby Red Slippers is a very different variation of the Silver Shoes are put in a new light, once one remembers how much the Ruby Red Slippers is based on historical events that transpired in Castle.   HISTORICALLY SPEAKING, THE SILVER SHOES IS JUST A STORY. WITH NO METAPHORICAL IMPLICATIONS ON ANYTHING AT ALL.

Spread

The Silver Shoes is a tale from Glass County, and mildly known outside of it in Castle, if only for it's connection to the Ruby Red Slippers, something that remains debatable to this day.

Variations & Mutation

The mother's role in the story changes in variations and no one knows entirely what their original role was. And if you listen to the theorists, the Ruby Red Slippers is a heavily plagiarised variation of the Silver Shoes. The exact ability of the Shoes also variates slightly from retelling to retelling.

In Literature

There are quite a few pieces of poetry inspired by it, and interpretations have been written by various people. But mostly it remains a fairytale.

In Art

Many paintings have been inspired by this fairy tale, and a competition was held to make a statue of The Daughter with the Silver Shoes. However, the statue was never made, as controversy arose over the exact design of the shoes and symbolism of poses. On a different scale, there were objections to having The Daughter be made into a statue, with some saying that 'the daughter is a metaphorical statement, and isn't a person',
