The Arcane Collegium

The Arcane Collegium is a Society of Archmages from all around the known World.

Structure

In theory, the organization is a sort of a brotherhood, a society of the most powerful mages of the world and everyone is equal. In practice, those who have are most well-known and have most power -be it arcane, political or financial- are the ones pulling the string in the collegium. One has to be an archmage to be accepted in -they need to apply and give a s amll presentations of their skills before joining. The presentation part is practically just a formality, as most people to rise up the ladder and become an archmage, even if of a very distant and small mage tower in periphery, are knowledgeable enough to pass the test with flying colours.

Public Agenda

To conserve and protect the public and the world from ill use of magic, but also exchange knowledge and information among the fellow mages.

History

The Arcane Collegium began as a human association, as the mage towers are part of human culture. The elves and dragons, who were the powerful magic users who came before the humans, did not feel the need to establish any societies for mages, as most people knew each other anyway, as they lived hundreds of years and had time to meet and greet, send letters and converse via other means. The humans, however, after they took on the study of arcane and as the race spread to the whole world, found it useful to have a society of like-minded people. Other races are not forbid in joining, though, as long as they are archmages themselves.

Before the Turbulence, the Arcane Collegium was quarreling much more, but afterwards when the magic went haywire, old empires fell and new countries were established in such a short time, the importance of the magical society as a safe place for like minded people to gather was truly understood. The old squabbles about silly political stuff seemed so old now when they had more pressing matters at hand. A decade by decade the magic began to return to somewhat normal and the old quarreling about minuscule things began again, but then, quite recently actually, The Magistrate of Kastradal was created and built on the ashes of Kingdom of Kastradal. This divided the collegium, uniting some parts and casting out others. The Great Archmage Of the Magistrate of Kastradal is allowed in the meetings, but as they are a controversial figure, many other archmages do not like their presence and merely tolerate them. A shadow collegium meetings are held by certain people who have boycotted the meetings where the The Great Archmage Of the Magistrate of Kastradal is present. Only time will tell how things are going to turn out for the continuity of the collegium...
