Personal history

Childhood

Vance was born in Borveil a small village north in Revendell in the valley of desolation. His life in Borveil was nothing special, even though the location of his home was. It was the only village located within the valley, except for the home of the Venthirs. The group of magical hunters were often thought to be evil sinister people who killed just because they could and delved into evil magic to enhance themself, but Borveil either did not care or knew better as the two groups had a good relationship and Borveil supplies the castle with most of its resources. Vance was told many stories of these Venthirs because of this and was very intrigued by their stories, He even got to meet a few of them, even though they were very rare. Vance's parents were physicians and would tend to most of the people in the city, Vance was even trained by them so that he could one day take over the small family business.

The Turning Point

This fantasy would end however, as in A4 458 when Vance was 24 years old, he met a young beautiful elvish girl. The two would fall in love and make plans to move in together. One night when Vance was sleeping he felt a quick pain in the back of the head and when he woke up he was not in his bedroom anymore. He was tied up with chains in a basement, in the house he and his girlfriend had talked about buying. He tried to break free and escape, but his muscles and body became paralyzed when he saw who had kidnapped him. It was her, she stood in front of him with blood around her mouth, dripping from her now obvious fangs. She was a vampire and everything was just a deception to have him kidnapped. Vance tried to beg for mercy, but she only laughed at him. She wanted only to keep him locked away so that he could be her source of food. This feeding went on for months, the existence that Vance lived in was not a life and every day he begged the gods to kill him so that his suffering would end. One day after being a play thing for over one and a half years his prayer might have been heard as she drained him completely and Vance finally died. Vance was free at last.   It was therefore very surprising to Vance when he woke up buried in the earth, covered completely in rock and mud. He dug his way out with whatever strength he could muster and found himself in the forests behind the village. He didn't understand how he was alive, but everything was heightened. His smell, sight and strength, all more powerful than what they were, even before he had been tortured. On his way back to Borveil he caught a glimpse of his reflection in a pond and saw his skin was pale and almost dead looking, he almost didn't recognize himself as this was the first time he had seen himself in a long time. He continued on to go home, but his rage was building within him and he couldn't go home yet. He shifted path and went on to the place where he had been captured. He went on to confront the vampire and when she saw him, she was surprised, she did not mean for him to live, and definitely not to be turned into a vampire. When she told him what he was Vance didn't believe her, he was blinded in rage. She tried to talk him down, saying things like that they could be together forever and that this life is better than that of a mortal. But nothing could stop him. Vance saw only red as he pushed his arm through his stomach, killing her instantly. He sat within the house for hours, if not even days after what had happened. He tried to come up with a plan on what to do, he learnt that she had told the village that he ran away after she denied his marriage proposal, to never be seen again. He hated that his parents would think him to be a coward, but also knew he couldn't show himself to them or the village. So he left, continuing the lies that she started.

The Venthirs of Durveina

Vance had no idea what a vampire was or how he would live, if he even wanted to after everything he had been through. He didn't want to kill himself as his parents had taught him how valuable life was and that one should never kill. He knew he'd already broken that rule, but was determined to never do so again. With his little knowledge on how to live without killing and how to stay alive without being a monster he turned to the only people he knew that knew anything about monsters, the Venthirs. The journey north was not long, but very difficult. Making his way to their castle was hard as they lived in the mountains in an isolated mountain surrounded by difficult terrain and monsters. He had many encounters with creatures who either tried to kill him or just scare him to death, but he eventually made it there. The castle was very empty and only a few people lived there, but he was introduced to their leader. Everyone clearly knew what he was, but they give him the benefit of the doubt, or were just bored enough to see how this would play out. Vance pleaded his case to their leader and told them everything he had been through and how much he wanted to be nothing like her. He was also ready for whatever judgment the Venthirs would give him, be that death or banishment, something the leader must have noticed based upon his decision to teach Vance how to live and how to be better. He decided to teach Vance everything they knew of vampires and also methods of extracting blood without using his fangs or killing people. The Venthirs are renowned for their science and most of all their alchemical and medical science. Vance stayed for a total of 7 winters with them before he had been taught everything they knew and become ready to make a new life for himself. During his time he had also become an honorable member of the group as he had become something of a doctor for them while training.

Life as a Medical Vampire

With the knowledge he had gathered from the Venthirs he went out into the world to find a place to settle. He stopped by many settlements to help injured people, but it was hard to feel welcomed for him as he had to live with a big lie. He also felt like he cheated his customers and patients when he told them he was just a doctor and nothing else. He remembered the betrayal he felt when she turned out to have lied to him. He tried to tell his patients what he was before doing anything to them, but most people either ran for their lives, tried to attack him or did not believe him. He understood that he couldn't be both a public vampire and a doctor at the same time as the people he met feared him too much. He went on to travel to a bigger city to learn about settlements in the world where he might be accepted or at least tolerated. He eventually made it to Revendell after wandering around the wilderness for weeks as his navigational abilities were quite bad. He didn't have time to learn anything useful however, as the Keeper of Light quickly found out about his true identity and were going to kill him for it. He made it out of the city and eventually the entire kingdom. He traveled west, but as he knew much about being a doctor and little about geography he stumbled into the plains of havoc.

Plains of Havoc

The creatures he saw and the destruction that could be found in that place was too much for him and nothing he could heal. He pushed through to make it to the other side if there even was another side. Again he was faced with horrible monsters and creatures that could scare a man to death, luckily for Vance he was already dead so the worst they could do was give him nightmares. His journey through the plains of havoc were tiresome and scary, at some point he thought he met a fellow traveler and approached the person, but when it grew to 27 feet tall and sprouted multiple new limbs he ran like he had neve run before. He ended up in an old ruin hidden amongst boulders and skeletons. He didn't recognize the architecture or anything about it, but he felt something calling out to him from within the ruin. At first he thought it was a person stuck beneath the rubble, but then he realized that it was impossible. He continued below into some sort of temple with languages he did not recognize and symbols that gave him a migraine. There were multiple skeletons still standing in a circle around a small altar with three books on them. Since Vance was a curious person he approached the books and picked one up. They had weird symbols on them and he couldn't read them, he opened them and still could not, but even though he could not read them he could understand them somehow. He didn't want to hang out with fellow dead people so he took the books and climbed back out of the temple. He didn't open them again before he got out of the plains of havoc which he eventually did.

Welcome to the Dominion, please leave

Vance didn't really know where he was or what country or kingdom he had just walked into, but he continued his journey into a much more safe land. Or that is at least what he believed. His journey took him into a few settlements mostly dominated by elves, with no humans that he could see. He didn't think too much about it at first, but the stares he got within the villages made him feel even more uncomfortable than when he used to reveal himself to his patients. He was unsure if the people could tell he was a vampire or if there was something else they disliked about him. It wasn't until a guard came up to him and informed him about where he was and that the land he had walked into was owned by The Andúrin Dominion who did not tolerate his kind at all. He was quite confused but understood when he was given a brief history lesson about how much the elves disliked the humans after they betrayed them long ago. Vance didn't understand how they could still hold a grudge, but went on his way. He asked if there was anywhere he could go since he did not want to go back through the plains of havoc. The people said he could go north into the tundras, but even though he didn't feel cold that much he wanted to live somewhere a bit less harsh. He heard rumors about a place underground who accepted all types of people, he didn't think they would accept him but after learning about its citizens he reconsidered and started a new journey to a place called Druunheim.   He made his way north as the entrance to Druunheim known as Nevae Scennel was deep within a cave system known as Naar Skenrek. His journey took him to a very big city known as Farendale. He knew that they didn't like his kind there but he needed some resources for his journey. He was granted permission to buy a few items within the city before leaving. The city was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen and he wished he could stay there for a bit longer so that he could fully experience it and all its beauty, but he was escorted out by guards before being able to experience anything but a general goods shop. He was once again on his own walking into a dangerous place where he knew nothing of the dangers or people he would be facing. His blood vials which he had taken when he worked with the Venthirs were also running dry and he would soon begin to starve. This made him a bit stressed, but he became very sure that Druunheim would be his new home once he reached it. The journey within the caves were not as bad as the journey through the plains of havoc, he could travel whenever he wanted and didn't need to hide from the sun that much. He also got some time to read his books when he was not walking. They gave him little when it came to words, but the things they showed him in his mind were inspiring, dark, but promising. He would make it to Nevae Scennel as the directions he got were quite easy to follow. All he had to do was keep walking down until he saw a massive sinkhole that went 6 miles straight down. He had bought a climbing set just in case, but he had also learnt a new trick which he trained on while he was walking within the caves. He learnt how to turn into a bat. This transformation would make the climb quite easy as he flew down carefully, as there were still many things that would eat a bat if given the chance. It took him about a day to get down but when he did he saw Druunheim. A giant city built halfway into the cave wall with giant spires of a beautiful metal that reflected the little light the city gave off. He went on towards it and when he was approached by guards outside the gate they asked him what he was doing there and he simply answered he sought a place to live and that he was a doctor. The duergars guards said that he was welcome and that the city was in dire need of a new doctor as their last healer died a few years back. Vance didn't want to tell them he was a vampire as he had just been accepted, but he could not live with himself if he didn't. He told the guards and to his surprise they only made a joke about him not needing to worry about the sun as they too hated it. He didn't quite understand how they were so accepting, but he didn't complain. He had finally made it to a place where he could begin a new life.
