Personal history

Early Life

Head in Sky was born to a small tabaxi clan in the Dayira Jungle. The clan was very isolated and stayed out of the way of other clans and other intelligent races. Sky was raised with her entire clan watching out for her and every member serving as her family, they were also very religious as they worshiped the tabaxi god known as Azuria who's domains include the sky and winds. Sky lived a very nomadic life with her clan as they moved around and never stayed in the same place for long. Since they scavenged for most of their items they would sometimes find weird oddities, magical trinkets and advanced tools or weapons that they did not understand. Most of these items were traded the very few times they met other intelligent races, but Sky often asked for them and was very interested in them. Since they held on to them for months if not years at a time, it became her task to maintain them and watch them until they could be traded. Her youth was filled with these trinkets and learning about them, she even traded some of them for other trinkets and even magical items. Her obsession with the items gave her the name she is known as since she spent much time tinkering and wondering about the items they found.   By the time Sky had turned 18 she had fallen in love with a man named Golden Cloak, or Golden for short. His name came from his beautiful and rare type of fur which had a shine to it which made it look like gold. The two had gone through the bonding ritual and were bonded, which is the equivalent of marriage in many tabaxi cultures. The two even had twins together which were named Rare Cloud (Cloud) and Sweet Dream (Dream). Sky had also become very adept with the trinkets she had found and managed to recreate many of the effects she had seen and even cast certain arcane spells which was a previously unknown talent to her clan. She had made trade much more accessible for her clan as they had some magical items to sell, often in the form of enchanted gadgets, trophies and stones. This talent of Sky's made her popular in the clan and she was given much more influence and control over where they went to scavenge.

Servitude

When Sky was 20 in the year A4 634 she and her clan were traveling through the Roaring Mesa on their way home after trading with some of the Bidhur People (also known as the Rootless Ones), their caravan was attacked by the Scarlet Shacklers. Few from the clan fought back and the ones that did were killed and later skinned for their fur. Sky and her family alongside the clan was taken as slaves by the Scarlet Shacklers and taken to the country Mahlar and into the capital Mahlaran. Sky was separated from her family when she arrived in the city and taken along with most of the women into a new caravan after staying there for only a few weeks and moved over the deserts until she arrived in Daharia. She was interviewed on the way there by the slavers to figure out her skills and as she told them about her tinkering and magic item inventions. The slavers clearly took an interest in it as she had rare and valuable skills. When she and the other members of her clan got to Daharia they were once again separated from each other. The rest of the women were taken to an auction which was close enough to the caravan she was sitting in for her to get a view of the entire event. Most of her clanmates were either sold as servants or plantation worker, but some of the younger women and girls where bought as pleasure slaves for private establishments. The entire event made her sick to her core and the comments people threw out at them made her furious. She attempted to scream at them, but she was quickly gagged after her first sound. After the auction she was taken to a beautiful palace with three towers sprouting from it. The palace was known as the Garnet Menagerie. There she was taken in and introduced to Kalen War'Urben. He was a highly esteemed arcanist who worked on behalf of the Talzmore family which was one of the ruling families in the city. She was sold for 1500 gold pieces to the man and left in his care.   In the beginning Kalen seemed like a upstanding man as the first thing he did was remove her bindings, and tell her that she would be no slave of his but rather his apprentice. He also gave her a beautiful necklace adorned with garnets that was to be worn instead of shackles as a sign of good faith. Sky was more interested in knowing where her children and bonded were. Kalen told her not to worry and that with his guidance she would learn how to find them herself. The tone he used when he spoke and his way of treating her made her feel safe and comforted in what he said, so she stopped questioning him about the matter entirely for the next few years. While being his apprentice Sky learnt that he was not the great person she originally taught him to be. At least 7 of his "apprentices” had died during their servitude and many others had just gone missing. She also saw his true menagerie which was located in the basement of the building. He had dozens of creatures and people of different races captured and put in small cells made to look like their "natural habitat". He liked to test on them and see how they worked on both an anatomic level and arcane, especially the magical born or magically enhanced creatures. The things he did to the creatures would scar Sky's thoughts forever and she would quickly have to adapt to doing the exact same thing to them. She also had to learn how to cast certain spells and create lesser items for him to use in the experiments or sell. If Sky ever messed something up during her captivity she was punished and used for tests instead of the chained creatures. Many of these involved potions, chemicals, spell testing or "physical inspections''. Some were almost harmless and some gave her side effects or pains that could last for weeks or months. But the worst thing he did to her was to chop her right hand off with a rusted saw to install a self-made prosthetic instead. The prosthetic was very basic and skeletal like in appearance with only four fingers. The coupling process was very painful and the infections she got from the procedure left her almost dead, but a physician managed to keep the infection at bay and cut off the flesh infected with necrosis. The process lasted for almost four months and when it was done the hand was functional but every motion caused electric pains to her nervous system.

The Pen and Poet

Even though Sky was never kept in chains or bindings, she never attempted to escape, there were even times when she was allowed to walk outside to fetch items or buy groceries for Kalen unsupervised, but she never tried to escape. The thought never crossed her mind until A4 639 when she was out in the markets and a blue skinned vedalken approached her and asked her about her magical aura. She didn't understand what he was talking about as the only magic she carried was her prosthetic. The gentleman insisted that there was something unique about her and that he didn't mean any harm and was only curious. She allowed him to inspect the source of it as she wanted to prove him wrong, but within a few seconds he took off her necklace and inspected it. While he was inspecting it she felt a rush of emotion and individuality coming back to her. Her wants of escaping and searching for her family sent her almost into a feral state of mind, but a gentle touch on her shoulder given by a much taller minotaur figure calmed her down. His name was Milo and he was with the vedalken man. He told her that whatever evil he had done to her was going to be returned a thousand fold by The Poet. She wondered who that was before Milo pointed back at the vedalken who had now shattered the necklace. She was told to return to her master and act as if everything was fine. The two put a small illusion on her of the destroyed necklace and talked her into going back with reassurance that everything was going to change. She did as they told her, even though she was more distrustful than ever. She delivered the items to Kalen and went to bed for the evening. She awoke the next morning to Milo knocking on her room and telling her they had to move quickly. She followed him through the palace and saw a glimpse of Kalen's body on the ground beaten and broken in by some blunt weapon. She felt satisfaction for what had been done to him but wished she could be part of it. Milo took her with him through some underground tunnels into a massive underground lounge known as The Pen. She was introduced to the people there and what they did, she was also informed that The Poet was already on his way home and could not be part of the situation for a few months. The people in The Pen were ragged and hard looking, but most of them were kind or atleast better than the company she had kept for so long. She also saw most of the people that had been kept in the basement of Kalen and was informed they were given the same treatment as her. Milo interviewed each of the people and her, but she was very scared during the process as it was close to what she had experienced only five years ago. Though she kept mostly to herself, she eventually opened up to Milo as she began to trust him as he seemed sincere and easy to read. She informed him that she wanted to find her family and the rest of her clan. She was worried it was to much to ask after what they had already done to her, but Milo agreed and within a day started looking through slave records and papers to find the right people. This job took time, two years in fact, and during that time she helped around the hideout and became part of other operations. She fixed equipment, made new and could always tinker with something to keep her distracted. She also got some combat training and became part of some mission like the one planned to help her. She got good at the job and liked the people she worked with. Milo eventually managed to track down almost 150 members of the clan and both her children and husband were still alive. Only 80 of the 150 members were still alive or within reach, but her children had been sold to Pardina as pet servants and her husband was working on a plantation outside of Quataria. It took another year before all arrangements could be done, but Milo eventually managed to gather the clan members and Sky's family. The reunion was like a dream for Sky and she wept tears of joy after meeting them again. Milo had a few options for the clan as he did not wish for them to go back to their nomadic life and the same danger could face them again, but he was also not about to tell them where they should go or not. But he had another offer for them. He could arrange passage for them to the mostly isolated island known as Escoltria which was their race's homeland. The clan needed to think about it, but looked to Sky for advice. Sky was lost in the moment as she had already made a decision, but seeing everyone together made it much harder to make. She wanted them to travel to Escoltria, but she was not coming. She found more satisfaction in the work she did with The Poet's Gang and seeing how much it meant for her clan and the other people they had helped over the years made her more willing to stay her current course. Her family was confused and saddened by it, but as their clan way of life was to find meaning wherever the wind blew them they knew that she was put on this path for a higher meaning and had to come to accept it. She said farewell with her family and clan as they left the following week. She promised to visit whenever she could and said if her lifestyle allowed, to retire there once old.   The years continued with Milo and the gang, and she made more friends and rescued more people while doing some smaller criminal acts on the side. She eventually got paired up with Celthis Gixsther and Bu Sirthe who became her best friends. The three of them became a sort of special group that would go out on mission by themself and eventually cross the ocean to help out in Cullfield as they were needed there. Cullfield was the main headquarter of the group and led directly by The Poet. In A4 649 The Poet had obtained a very powerful and expensive construct known as the red construct. It was far beyond his understanding and had Sky come work with him while Celthis and Bu continued their trips back and forth between the continents. She managed to get it working and obeyed The Poet. She even managed to create a gem for the construct which could temporarily summon it and then return it to its workshop in Cullfield. In A4 652 The Poet summoned all his most powerful and trusted allies to Cullfield as a new and bigger threat had arrived. A new crime guild known as The New Syndicate had taken out their place in Evlora and Clad Silvarno was pushing harder on Cullfield. These events eventually lead to the defeat of Clad and his gang and a massive bombing on their own headquarter which killed some members. Sky was caught in the bomb radius but survived with a bad head injury and lost her right eye. Milo also returned from Daharia a few months later with news that The Pen had fallen to the Crimson Marauders who killed everyone but Milo. This event pained Sky just like the time she was separated from her family, but this time she was not defenseless and helped the gang plan a course of revenge.
