Personal history

Ceyaun Ilmenos was born in the Azarian city of Aza in the year -30 FBC. Not much was recorded of his youth, although as the eldest son of the prominent noble family of Ilmenos it was one of vigorous academic, martial, and magical education. The first notable records of young Ceyaun come from his instructors at the Holocin Academy, the city's magical institution, of which noble youths were expected to master the traditional Aspect of their House. A gifted student, Ceyaun quickly mastered all known Facets of Arahayl, limited mostly to those of illusion and trickery. A pious man, even at such a young age, Ceyaun was particularly drawn to the esoteric deity of the sun, Ayeros, and it was during one such time of prayer Ceyaun was struck with inspiration. He spent nine days in isolation, emerging with knowledge of light-fire.    This discovery rocked the magical community, as Arahayl had traditionally been regarded as having no place in warfare. Teaching his trusted companions and retainers this new power, Ceyaun and his House put down long-held rivals within the city and seized the Indigo Crown as his own. These companions would become the earliest forebears of the Eroamni.  What followed next was a flurry of conquest, marshaling the power of Ilmenos and Aza, Ceyaun led a campaign of unification across the Azarian peninsula. By 1 FBC he had solidified the Azarian homeland into an empire with himself as the head. Under his leadership, the disparate Azarian states were united in the worship of the Blue Veil and a firm emphasis was placed on the development of Arahayl sorcery into the most potent weapon mankind had ever seen. He expanded the empire northward into the forests and mountains of southern Ardun, conquering the Heartlands and all south of the Corethese River. This was to be the extent of the empire before his ascension.   As the empire grew, so did his exploration into the depths of Arahayl magic. He became the only mortal for over 200 years to master Azure-phase light-fire, and discovered two realms of hyperlight (Ivaline and Occin). Beyond even the formation of the Terappan Empire and his own ascension, Ceyaun greatest contribution to history was the opening of Light magic to mankind.

Sexuality

As with most Azarians, Ceyaun was bisexual and took two wives and two husbands.

Education

Ceyaun was educated from a young age at the three pillars of Aza's education system - the Torsaud, the Getterine School, and the Holocin Academy, devoted to combat, scholastic pursuits, and sorcery respectively. As the new emperor, he remained in constant contact with fellow practitioners of Arahayl sorcery and near the end of his life, exchanged two dozen letters with the Isa-Qani of Mazaii, at that time considered to be the greatest center of magic in the known world.

Morality & Philosophy

Ceyaun is considered the ideal Azarian for good reason. He strongly considered morality and good judgement to be crucial to the success of any individual, and much more so an empire. Besides his worship of the Fulminate Sun, Ceyaun revered the Twelve Wisdoms above all other deities of the Blue Veil. He believed in a compassionate law, one where the circumstances of one's life were taken into consideration if brought before a court of law. He believed in following through on commitments and in personal, family, and national honor that uplifted the good of each member of the community. He famously refused an alliance with the slaving city of Fatados in the ending of a plague of pirate activity at great personal cost to the nascent empire's treasury.
