Nassinia Cruentis Revolt

Literally "bleeding Nassinia", the revolt that threatened to sweep through the empire and beyond, through Allucimere, over a century ago has not been forgotten by plebeian and patrician alike...

The Conflict

Prelude

The revolt was preceded by long, bread riots in the city of Nassinia and the surrounding areas. When the governor organized special chariot races in an attempt to halt the revolt, these backfired and the governor called in the military to deal with the angered rioters. Led by incompetent leadership, the local garrisons were utterly defeated by the plebeian rioters, with many soldiers even joining the revolt. After this incident, the revolt spread like wildfire throughout the city, ultimately forcing the governor to flee by the end of February.

The Engagement

A few days later, the governor returned with more garrisons, mainly from the nearby city of Muntasium, which also faced similar riots at the time. With them, he invaded the city, leading to a devastating battle with the local plebeian assembly's forces. Nearly every street had been covered in barricades and fires repeatedly spread throughout the entire city, damaging both sides. In the end, after thousands of losses total from both sides, the governor was killed by an arrow while he entered the ruined city, leading to a ceasefire.

Outcome

After the governor's death, the fighting largely stopped, with both sides resorting to negotiation amidst the ruins of the city. Fires continued to burn for weeks, ravaging the city and forcing many to flee to the nearby Muntasium.

Aftermath

Although the battle itself was indecisive, with many dead on both sides, the Plebeian Assembly was granted its increased power and cuts on bread taxes in the subsequent negotiations. To avoid further riots, particularly in Muntasium, those local Plebeian assemblies were also strengthened, guaranteeing far more rights to the lower classes than they previously held.
