The endless flame of Ashil

It is said that the founding party of Ashil hailing from Marolk brought with them on their journey to conquest the unknown, a magically enchanted flame that through rain or shine never dimmed or fizzled out. The origin of this flame is unknown though conflicting tales are told to this day on how the flame was made and why it never went out, the people of Ashil take pride in this flame that has been long lost to time for their town is known in tales as the town of the ever lit flame. It is said that the first fires of Ashtrap Forge were lit by the flame. Torches are now seen as a sign of hope by the people and even to this day on group hunting trips a flame is lit in homage to the ever glowing flame.

Variations & Mutation

Most tales on the flame speak not of it being the flame that was 'enchanted' but the iron holder, from tale to tale its appearance changes, only the old ruler of Marolk and the 'enchanter' would know though as a human the ruler is long gone and with so many conflicting tales on the 'enchanter' even if they were alive and came forward belief in them would be conflicting from person to person.   Common tales include:
  • The iron torch blessed by Pelor to hold eternal light.
  • Fae touched light, some believe a warp in the planes left the torch eternally glowing with a magical pink fire from the fae realm. This tale is backed up by a consistent amount of plane movements recorded from around the conception of the Alloy Plane.
  • A Dwarven ally's gift, tales are told of how gifts were exchanged between different Originator's and so stories of a specially crafted iron torch engraved with ancient dwarven runes to make a special flame that would never go out went around.
  • The enchanted torch, some say an enchantment cast apon the leather bound torch to pull in light from the element of sun, which allowed it to produce flame consistently through built up magical energy. Differing figures are spoken about as the enchanter though with the common belief of the sun being involved the most prominent mysterious figure was of a sun elf.
  • Thief's joke, local criminals and cynics like to joke about a trickster of Olidammara  whom would quickly relight the torch and hide it when it was unlit to fool his party into thinking it was a magical torch.
There are many more tales though these are the the most common ones, in Ashil there is an anthology of these stories named 'The anthology of eternal flame'.
