Ortu Solis

Purpose / Function

This city on the eastern coast of Cardas is the city of the “Rising Sun”. It serves as the largest exports of fish in all of Cardas. What they pride themselves on most, however, is their ability to train soldiers quickly and, most importantly, efficiently. House Aurora founded and still controls the city. The training regimen of Dawnguard Castle, which lies at the back of the city, Is rumored to be one of the toughest, most excruciating training processes in all of Alldras. This rumor is partially due to the leader of House Aurora, Lysa Aurora, not having shown any emotion to the public at all. Any soldier who speaks about the training process to anyone not already going though or having been through who has gone through it, even to family, are expelled from the city. Obviously there are is the ruler of Cardas, the Empress, who already knows of this process

Entries

The city sits on the ocean just barely a mile off the coast, so there’s only two ways of entry into the city. One entry is the docks on the south side. These docks are heavily guarded at all times and all imports and exports are checked through at one of three checkpoints. Smuggling normal items is considered an act of tax evasion and smuggling illegal items is an act of terrorism. Both acts will be punished as so.The other entrance is a very large, half a mile long, draw bride on the west side of the city, facing the coast. This end is guarded heavily too. Not with checkpoints, but with sentries and only a small pathway to walk into the city. Cannonball cannons are lined up on the walls as extra defense.

Sensory & Appearance

The city is very beautiful, especially when laying your eyes upon it for the first time. Canals are carved in both lines and curves throughout the entire city. Houses are not built too tall, but they are very comfortable enough for their residents.the city was designed in a way that anyone and everyone would be able to see the sun rising over the walls to the east. In the south east corner of the city lies Dawnguard castle. Dawnguard castle was a skyscraper in comparison to any building in all of cardas, with the exception of The Abyssal Citadel, of course. There is a plaza/court just outside the castle which holds much of the shops and markets.

Architecture

Ortu Solis took years to build, but with the leadership and training skills of Lady Aurora, the city came into place. The walls were built from purely cobblestone originally, but thanks to the financial success of fishing exports in the city and scientific advancements of Cardas, the walls of the city were lined thinly with a material called “Graphene”. This material was also used on Dawnguard Castle. Dawnguard castle’s original material was a harder form of cobblestone, deemed the name of “Lightstone” for it’s very light weight, yet great durability.

History

Ortu Solis was founded by Lysa Aurora, who retired from the Cardasi army after only a couple of years. She was given the title of Lord/Lady and she got to choose a piece of land in which she could build anything she wanted. She took her time deciding as she didn’t really care too much about it. Her cousin, Hullrand stepped in and helped her make a decision. He said to choose a good sized land just half a mile off the coast of Cardas. There they then began hiring and training workers to build up the city. Their family name “Aurora” means “New Dawn”, so they wanted the entire city to be able to see the rising sun each morning. That’s their base for the structure, architecture, and even the naming scheme. Lysa was only experienced in military combat, so she set the city out to be militarian, but also recognized that it was a city surrounded by water, so fishing would also be very profitable and efficient.
