The Dragonhead Cove

The cove in the north-west of Allatar is said to be made from the head of the first of the Dragons, slain by the first of her children, the chromatic dragons.

Summary

The myth tells of the first of Dragonkind, the Calipathrexia, the prototype of dragons created by the gods, the design from which all dragons were created. She was majestic, beautiful and held the world in balance. She birthed two clutches of eggs, one with dragons whose scales were the colour of metals and the second whose colouration ranged from red to blue and many other colours.   The metallic dragons grew to be wise, kind, cunning and playful but the younger chromatic dragons, feeling that their mother preferred their metallic kin, became consumed by bitterness and anger. Calipathrexia had noticed this, and tried all she could to convince her children she loved them all equally but to no avail, the chromatic dragons had been claimed fully by jealousy and maddness. They hatched a plan, to rid the world of their siblings and their mother so that they would be the mightiest creatures in the realms.   While their family slept, the chromatic dragons struck, and a great battle ensued, the chromatic dragons were savage and uncaring in their assault where the others held back and tried to defend themselves, still unwilling to harm their own kin. Calipathrexia cried out, weeping in sorrow at the betrayal of the children she loved, bidding her loyal children to flee to the far corners of the world while she would hold back the treacherous chromatic dragons.   Wheeling in the air as her children attacked, it is said that in the end it wasn't their claws, fangs or breath that slew Calipathrexia but that she died brokenhearted at the evil she had brought into this world. Crashing down to the sea she went, her children roaring in triumph in the skies above. Where she landed, she struck the world with such force that she became a part of it. Her head forming a great cove, her spine a range of mountains, her wings the great forest.
