The First Scales

After the 16 Dragons freed Osmaria and ascended to godhood, the dragonborns they brought with them found themselves with no more leaders, a newfound freedom they didn't know how to handle. They were used to fight each others, to avoid their Dragon lords destroying their original world in their conflicts... But now they had no more reasons to fight each others, and no new reasons to trust them. The 16 hordes decided to each go their way, finding places to found their new clan across the land.   Dragonborns were acclaimed as heroes and descendants of gods, so none of them had any difficulty to find a welcoming place to settle. Each clan was made of one color of scales, and for this first generation of newcomer, it looked like a good compromise. But as the new offsprings arrived, the Mettalic elders foreseen an issue. None of their clans, simple leftovers of a war, were full enough to secure an absence of inbreeding. Thus, they started to search for the other clans again and form alliance.   One of them, Kampesh of the Copper clan, went a step further and decided to reach out to the Gem and Chromatic clans as well. After all, their clans were about the same size. Surely they have realised the same thing as them Metallic clans ? And if not, they can not be refusing a help to keep living. Alas, as he searched through the land, he couldn't find a single Gem Dragonborn. He found in the deepest swamp the Black Dragonborns who allied themselves to Reptilefolks, in the large cursed forest of Aviguor resided the Green Dragonborns... But no Gems to find. A young Green Dragonborn named Voltia joined Kampesh's effort. She was born as part of the clan and never met the Gem Dragonborns, she felt it was the occasion to see the diversity of her kind.   Both of them traveled far and wide, meeting the other Chromatics. No Gem in sight. Kampesh's work had gotten easier with a Voltia's energy and good will by her side. And so the Red Clan pointed the human city of Navarand. Surely, this specie able to construct anything and travel anywhere, would know where the other clans are gone.   When they arrived, to their suprise, the city was in shambles. Humans from the same kind, in the same city, were bickering and fighting to gather seeds and roots. The Great War had left deeper scars than the Dragonborn had expected in this specie's psyche. In now decades, the humans who had refused to ally themselves with other kinds -like most kinds at this time, this was a common mentality- was struggling to organize their bastion, and had little to no records of what was happening outside the city. Kampesh felt revulsed by this display andwas ready to turn tail, surely Dragonborns didn't need help of such savages. But Voltia refused to leave. She saw in their state a trouble much deeper. The fear of other ennemies arriving, or having their old allies turning back on them like Orcs already did, stopped humanity from growing. It wasn't far different from what Dragonborns were going through. They needed more than their own kinds... Species had to come together not just for war, but for civilisation itself. The duo broke with Voltia hellbent on helping the humankind of Navarand and Kampesh focusing only on his own kind.   Voltia asked for a leader, but there was none. She asked for the wisest of humans, but so many claimed this title and none would give up. Every time she helped one man, 10 arrived demanding the same treatment, ready to snatch it from the helped person. They were too afraid of death to support an other living any better. Overwhelmed Voltia returned to her clan and explaied what she saw, sharing her fears of such behaviors coming to Dragonborns, elves and many more if each stayed in their corner.   Finally all Metallic and Chromatic Clans agreed upon meeting. The Green Clan suggested that the human city of Navarand would provide a good neutral zone, following Voltia's desire to open eyes to all clan... And to execute her plan, with or without human's consent. She went back to Navarand the day before to warn them : Help is coming, the draconic gods had sent their children once again to save humankind ! The only thing they had to do is to not fight their arrival, and let them do their work.   The next day, all clan leaders and trusted ones arrived to the ruined city. Voltia was standing among them, claiming : See this ruin of civilisation ? All this wasted potential of grandeur ? That was the fate of all races amongst the land, if they couldn't work together. It was time Osmaria became more than a bunch of people living closeby, it was time to make a nation... And clearly, the humans needed guidance. An example. Drangoborns, who saw their errors first and were about to band together, Dragonborns created at the image of the draconic saviors. Dragonborn could lead all Osmaria, banded together.   Metallic Dragonborns wer skeptic. Should they meddle with other races growth, in a land that wasn't  theirs to begin with ? Wasn't this another form of crowd control, a domination like the one they fought against ? They asked to wait for the arrival of Gem Clans to decide on this all together... Gem Dragonborns were the most solitaries, but also the wisest. Surely their opinion would matter. Kampesh would come back soon with some representants and they will figure out what to do.   The day became two, then a week, then many. Weeks of observing human's behaviors. They were almost begging for guidance, inspired by Voltia's words of safety and salvation. At the end of the month, Kampesh finally came back. He looked exhausted and decades older, but there was no doubt of his identity as he fell down in front of Navarand's walls. Guards brought him to safety and healed him. Finally he could tell his tale and answer, why was he alone ?   'I traveled through Osmaria without a sign of them. I went in the deepest mines, to the highest mountains, to the furthest isles. I had to cross the border through the Deepmore River to find only one of them. Beyond the Deepmore is nothing but ruins, the Farbeings destroyed this land beyond repairs, a wasteland of death and undeath alike. As for the one i met, he was of the Topaz clan but his scales were so pale i first thought he was of the Crystals. He ran away when he saw me, on all fours. It was like isolation or madness turned him in a beast. I had to run and to use what i had left of magic to slow him down. He hissed and snarled, a savage creature. I managed to calm him down through offerings of food and clear water. He still had knowledge of language despite his attitude, yet all i could gather from his answers... Is...   They are gone. The Gem Clans... Refused to stay on this land. They, tried to settle out of Osmaria. But nowhere they went was home. They united to return to our realm, to build a new portal... But with no Dragons to sustain and anchor it, something happened. He couldn't tell me what, but i'm afraid his now stature was answering enough... I do not know if some could cross. If others are still alive... There is no Gem Clan to join us is all i know...'   Devastated, all clans gathered to mourn their cousin's loss. Voltia didn't waste time to use this pain, showing what happens. 'When we act on our own. Elves helped the first time to do the portal with dragons. Each race in their corner can only create doom.' she claimed and pleaded. Finally, the clans gave in. All Clan Leader joined and created a council. Marriages and Alliances were made through the clans to guarantee their lineage's safety. Then, they helped humans reform their city. This was the apparition of the Scale Council. Guided by the wise Dragonborns, Humans made a strong capital, and together they spread tehir influence through Osmaria and its species...
