The Wolves of the Whites

Listen and learn from the children before who did not heed their mother's calls,   Who stayed out too late and ended up flayed by the monsters awaiting us all.   Creatures of darkness no longer alone, they feast on the flesh of the lost,   Who wander too far from the walls after dark, where nightmares come and accost.   Once there came from wind and rain, the howling of the wind.   Borne upon a bloody tongue, that feasted on our sin.   From Mountains White there came a fright, their fur of silver light,   And when they come, our children run, lest they be consumed in the night.   The wolves of the Whites come down in the night, with claw, and tooth, they rend.   Coming to feast on the savory meat of children out of bed.   Listen and heed the call to be home within your safe walls,   Where wolves don't go since long ago they were banished from humanity's halls.   Houl the Bastard came with his skills, and promised to free us from doom.   All he required was a huge burning fire, and for the people to give him plenty of room.   Out in the night he made such a sight, dancing before the flames,   And every witness was shocked and afraid when the wolves came, and did the same.   Together they spun, it seemed Houl had won, and freed humanity from the wolves,   But often, with magic, we find, quite tragically, more problems are made than are solved.   Morning came, and Houl had said that the sun should burn them away,   Yet when Bol's eye stared down from the sky, it saw Houl and the wolves the same.   Before the eyes of the people who survived, Houl and the wolves disappeared,   And the wolves of the Whites still come in the night, just as the people had feared.
