Demographics
Due to the budding city’s age and location, the mercantile class makes up a majority of the denizens. By way of trade route from Aldenvik, or by boat from the north, merchants from across the east have seen the opportunities that Ospero may have for them. Several dozen traveling merchants have turned their wagons into permanent shops in the main town square. Others have built shops or inns down by the docks. You can even find a cart or two in the outskirts of the city nearby active logging and construction zones.
Beyond the merchants, the builders are the largest group of people currently residing in Ospero. In partnership with Steve, Ospero hired a fleet of builders to expedite the construction of the city. In the few years since the initial foundations were built, people from all over the eastern countryside were brought in and given permanent residence. The builders consist largely of Humans, Dwarves, Bearfolk, and Orcs.
All manner of other beings can be found in Ospero in smaller numbers. People seeking refuge, adventure, or just a new place to call home have settled in the barracks surrounding the city. Drow and other Elves, Lizardfolk, Aasimar, Tiefling, Goblins, and the occasional Gnome are calling Ospero home.
Government
The founding Six have set up a council, much in the footsteps of Steve, to directly oversee the construction and ongoing operations of Ospero.
The region falls under the jurisdiction of Arrlonde, though it is on the edge of the capital’s territory. As such, they follow the same laws and tax practices. Though this is a formality. As Steve’s dominance in the Northeast grows, so too does Ospero’s in the west under their guidance.
Geography
Ospero sits opposite Aldenvik across Lake Krasturr and extends into the pass of the Ruins of Qura’zan. The northern river that feeds the lake is natural barrier to the northeast of the city. The eastern portions of Ospero sit relatively flat at water level. As the land gets closer to the Turukaar Mountains the city slopes on it’s western edge.
Throughout the city, apart from the docks closest to the lake, are small hills making perfect sledding opportunities in the winter months. With the city under construction still, there isn’t much in the way of fantastic views. But, from a few high hilltops in the west at night, in just the right conditions, one can view all of Ospero and Lake Krasturr and see the reflection of Aliria’s Moons and a thousand stars.
Natural Resources
The Turukarr mountains have been essential to Ospero’s construction and expansion. Dense forests and abundant game have made the process smoother than otherwise would be expected. Though the soil hasn’t been worked and tested long enough to know if the fields zoned for the city’s crops can last, the Farmers Guild have high hopes for Ospero’s prosperity.
No mines or quarries have been constructed currently. The Turukarr Mountains were once home to a vast Dwarven civilization who’s technology far exceeded any other at the time. The Osperian Council is very aware of this, but the looming threat of Qura’zan is halting progress on the front. There are also plans to explore the caverns beneath Lake Krasturr and see exactly where the water of the northern river leads.
