Ley Energies

Ley Energies are the forces that flow through, in and around the world's Leylines. Seeping from them, the energies cover the world in a magical blanket affecting everything they touch even to the farthest reaches. Energies have had thousands of years to change the world around them. Land, fauna, and flora have developed a necessity, or dependancy, for the energy provided by the Leylines. Areas of the world can be cut off from these energies if a nearby Leyline is altered in some way. It is true that Ley Energies from every Leyline can be felt wherever you stand, but the farther from a source you are, the weaker the force becomes. Scholars and researchers have been working vigorously to prove the existence of such powerful energies. Magically inclined beings tap into these energies whenever they cast spells. Depending on proximity to the sources of Ley Energies and the caster's own will their spells may pull more of these energies than usual and create an unexpected outcome. Ley Energies are ultimately the source of all magic on Aliria. Overtime magic has evolved due to the effects of the energies.

Manifestation

Ley Energies are not visible to the naked eye, but their effects can be noted. Carving through mountains, shaping hills and valleys, and sweeping air currents the energies effects are felt globally. Areas with a larger concentration of life are also sure signs of the work of Ley Energies. A keen and perceptive eye can spot these peculiarities and study them. Apart from physically warping the lands, they flow through, life is also affected by these energies. Some examples of known Ley Energy effects include:
The rapid evolution of affected species. Altering the physical properties of naturally occurring metals. Stronger reactions from elemental and magical spells. The altering of the physiology of species nearby Ley Energies.

Localization

Ley Energies have no observable boundaries, they simply affect the world far greater the closer to the leyline the energies are. Areas directly in the path of a Leyline will feel the effects of that magic more-so than an area leagues away as the Ley Energies are stronger on those paths. Convergent Leyline points feel the strongest effects of the Ley Energies, so much so that the understanding of the effects break down when the energies are powerful enough. Where energies are not present, such as The Great Acacia, the land dries up, plant life shrivels and dies, and species must migrate or risk extinction due to lack of food sources.
