Republic of Altaiesha
The Republic of Altaiesha (Pronounced: Al-tie-eesh-ah) is a former kingdom and vassal state of the Kingdom of Jegoria. Ruled by the Lawbringer family since the fall of Jegor, they recently declared independence from the Jegorian King and have been defending themselves from Jegorian attempts to take the country over.

History
56 BYD: Altaiesha is founded by Barrett Lawbringer, the younger brother of the new king of Jegoria, Jegor Peacebringer. Barrett served his older brother dutifully, often being bullied by him into doing things for the interest of Jegoria, setting the precedent of the country being little more than a Jegorian vassal state. Altaiesha soon goes to war with the newly formed countries of Dormand, Levmonza, and Tivelania, at the request of Jegoria. Taking the city of Croci is of particular interest.
1258 AYD: King Reginald the 9th took power after the death of his older brother, Cemrain. Cemrain and his two sons were poisoned by an assassin on the front lines. Reginald was not in attendance as he was less of a warrior and more of a bookish man, having studied alchemy in Almas before returning home.
1260 AYD: King Reginald encacts vast changes to Altaiesha.
- He sent formal notices to Dormand, Levmonza, and Tivelania, giving up Altaiesha's claims on the city of Croci, and informing them that Altaiesha would now be an independent nation, and did not want to continue to war with them. Included in these notices were suggestions for new borders and information about the new rulers of the country.
- He summons twenty four people from the different settlements in Altaiesha and appoints them the new ruling council.
- He sends messengers to the seventeen different settlements in the country, announcing new local leaders, and declaring there will be future votes to determine who their leaders will be.
- He stripped away all power of the nobility, making them regular citizens.
- He also appoints a new Commandant to lead the Altaieshian army.
Military
Altaiesha has a long, storied, military history. Having been at war with their neighbors since the fall of Jegor, every able bodied person is trained in basic combat skills. Most men were conscripted into the Jegorian military, very rarely rising up to leadership roles due to Jegorian's blood superiority complex. Men were expected to marry young, and sire lots of children, and die in glorious battle for the King. Men raised their daughters and sons to be strong, for that would give them the best chance to survive. Their warriors were said to fight with the ferocity of barbarians and the skill of knights. Even commoners when forced into combat would often prove to be able to handle themselves against the trained soldiers of their enemies.
After independence, Altaiesha moved to an all volunteer army. Given that they have peace treaties with their neighbors, they are able to focus their military forces on the eastern borders with Jegoria. The army is supplemented by local militias who handle local day to day defense. Being a landlocked country, Altaiesha has no navy.
The Military Leader of Altaiesha is known as The Commandant and is elected by the people.
Agriculture & Industry
The Altaieshian people have a fondness for alcohol and good food. Their primary exports are alcohol based, as well as food. High quality wine and spirits leave the country through trade routes to the north and find their way to ports across the world. Most Altaieshians are known to have some skill with making alcoholic beverages, many families have secret recipes they pass down to their children.
There are a few mercenary companies that have sprung up since independence that can be hired, though they refuse to act against the interests of Altaiesha.
Altaiesha has a mild climate, and much of their economy is based around agriculture. They produce large amounts of crops like barley, corn, grains, hops and wheat, which are usually sold locally. They also focus on fruit and honey. These ingredients are eager sought after by the various brewing houses.
Most Altaieshians are known to have a secret family recipe for some type of alcoholic beverage.

Legislative Body
The Republic has a ruling council that serves as the legislature. The council has 24 members, one for each village and town, and three from each of the cities. These representatives are elected to 4 year terms.
Judicial Body
Each city, town, and village, appoints its own judge for local matters. While serving locally, they may also provide council and advice to their fellow judges outside their district, or give input to the legislature. If a high court needs to be convened for a high crime, such as treason or the questioning of a national law, nine judges are picked at random to serve on the court for that case. In times where there are multiple high cases, the same high court may preside over all those cases. Judges serve until they retire, or their district recalls them, which is rare.
