Blossom of Frii

The Blossom of Frii is a flower that only grows on cliff sides across the kingdom of Alfheim. The cold of the northern portion of the kingdom does not affect the flower, as cliffside temperatures are often quite low, so the flower is able to withstand these climates. The flower is shaped like a bell and boasts shining golden petals that glow if they reach their medicinal maturity. Its leaves are large and wave in the wind, as the flower itself is very light. The Blossom of Frii was first discovered by the Light Elves. As these people began to expand their settlements throughout Alfheim, they began to notice glowing "fires", as they called them, on the edge of cliffs. Initially, they allowed the blossoms to grow, not knowing what they were or whether they would prove to be harmful to them, but eventually, some brave individuals decided to scale the cliffs and harvest the flowers. Thanks to this, they discovered the fragile growing conditions required by the Blossom of Frii - if the flower is not grown in the soil from the cliffside where it was found, and if the light conditions and moisture in the soil are not perfect, the flower ceases to bloom. Through processes of trial and error, the Light Elves finally managed to keep a blossom alive long enough to discover its medicinal properties. The Elves were already very familiar with using plants and herbs for medicinal purposes, so they decided to attempt to utilize the Blossom of Frii for the same thing. They removed the seed pod that grows within the blossom and ground the petals into fine dust, which they added to an herbal oil mixture and consumed. They soon discovered that the flower could easily heal the chest conditions that were so common throughout Alfheim due to the habits of smoking various herbs for recreation. The conditions included congestion, throat pain, or upper respiratory infections. However, the flowers began to be harvested at a rapid rate with the thought that any condition could be treated, so they have fallen into an endangered category.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The blossom itself is shaped like a bell, with a small seed pod inside. Its leaves are large and sway in the wind in what was called a "sun dance" by the Light Elves.

Ecology and Habitats

This particular flower flourishes on cliff sides, which is why it is so difficult to harvest them. They are rare to see in home gardens and other locations, as the soil they need to grow is specific to the cliff side, and if the conditions are not exactly right if it is being grown in a new location, the flower will cease to bloom.
Scientific Name
Anthophyta
Conservation Status
Lord Vidarr's council took up the mantle from his father, Lord Eirik, to continue implementing active measures to protect this blossom, as it was so heavily used for every medical issue that the flower began to nosedive towards extinction. Now, the areas where they grow are protected by an approved medical professional who knows what conditions the flower can and cannot treat who has been assigned to the area. If an individual approaches with hopes of harvesting a flower, the professional will inquire what condition they are trying to treat. Only if the condition can easily be treated with the flower will the individual be allowed to take a flower, but they must sacrifice the seed pod to be replanted in order to protect the species.
