The Cathedral of Delieverance
As the sun rose in the east the light streamed into the Cathedral through the stained glass the whole interior was lit up in a multitude of colors which evoked the wonder and amazement of all those in attendance. As his holiness walked to the high altar all eyes in the room shifted to him and there was perfect peace and silence. But, in an instant that silence was shattered as the High Priest was struck in the chest with an arrow. After a second of disbelief there was a cacophony of noise as the audience members began to run in every direction.
Purpose / Function
This was built to commemorate the deliverance of the humans to the shores away from danger. It is the largest building in the known world it has shrines to all five of the human deities.
It is considered one of the most holy places to the humans and because of all of the traffic that came through it became seat of political power in the human kingdom in the world. The abbot of the temple complex had the wealth and power of major noble lord.
It is not located in the human capital instead being located on the shores of the southern peninsula where the humans first landed on the shores of Alesund.
Alterations
It started as simple wooden shrines to the various gods of the Human Pantheon of Gods; these were hastily constructed in thanks by humans when they landed on the shores of their new home. These were slowly added to over the years but the basic structure remained the same. The shrines were surrounded by a simple wooden wall more to protect them from the weather than from attacks.
However, it burnt down in the first Great War; after the Human victory in the war the King funded the rebuild of the complex. In order to give thanks for the gods for their help in the War he funded an entire proper cathedral dedicated to the Gods. The central temple was built first with all five altars to the various gods on the inside each. The King spared no expense in adorning the inside of the temple,
It was added to later with two wings one was a school for the priests while the other was the residence of the chief priest of the temple.
Architecture
The current buildings are all made out of marble and granite with the inside covered with the most ornate precious metals, with huge stain glass windows which catch the rays of the rising and setting sun.
History
The humans after traveling for years looking for a new home finally landed on the shores of Alesund after being chased through a storm by the Sea-Elf. Just when all seemed lost they spotted a peninsula jutting out into the ocean. When they landed the first thing that they did was set up shrines to the gods to seek guidance and prayer. They would eventually move further down the coast to what would later become the Capital of their Empire. But this location remained one of their most holy places.
For the first century this Shrine continued to serve as the heart of the religious order of the Humans. All of the relics that they had from their old homeland were delivered here; and this is were new priests were trained. Eventually a small city grew up around it in order to support the the activities of the Temple.
In the first Great War it was destroyed by the rebels. They seemed to be the turning point in the war, and after the war was over the victorious King rebuilt it. From this point it remained untouched by the ravages of war with the Order gaining more and more power within the Empire.
When the Empire factured into various kingdoms they formed their own city-state run was a theocracy by the High Priest of the Temple. It stayed this way until the present day.
