House Duri

House Duri is one of the five major houses of the Drow. The territory claimed by House Duri is centralized and surrounded by the other four major houses of the Drow: House Mullala, House Tathryn, House Bellarpassa, and House Sbatjss. House Duri currently is considered the most influential of all drow houses.

Geography

The current territory of House Duri lies in the center of eastern Durarin. It is surrounded by all other major drow houses, bordering House Sbatjss in the north, House Bellarpassa in the west, House Tathryn in the south, and House Mullala in the south and east. The territory stretches from the Twin Lakes around the city Greenlake to the Umbrian Islands, and from the city Blacklake to Orda-Ethildien. The capital Thala Vandar is located on the eastern coast of Durarin and stands close to the Mahlstrom. The territory on the surface measures about 108.000 square miles. House Duri is known for its very expanded Underdark, which measures about the same size as the territory on the surface.

History

House Duri is the oldest of all drow houses. The namesake of the house is Duri, who was the first matriarch of the Drow. After the assassination of her husband Grecur in 14705 b. BF., Duri claims the throne of the drow and transforms the society into a matriarchy. With that, House Duri was founded. However, the term 'House Duri' was used for the first time only many years later. While the supreme matriarch always was a descendant of Duri or and therefore somehow related to their bloodline, noblewomen of other families were established and assigned to certain regional tasks. For a long time, Duri and the descending matriarchs of the same bloodline were leading the entirety of all drow, leading them into an age of war but also prosperity. One of House Duri's greatest achievements is the discovery of the Skuttles and the Underdark in 14664 b. BF.
In 13128 b. BF., Lolth became the supreme matriarch of House Duri. Due to Lolth's power and commitment to the war against the Elves her appreciation among most drow grew rapidly. After Lolth's death in 12013 b. BF., her descendants and close allies united and formed House Sbatjss in northern Durarin. With that, the title of the supreme matriarch was contested by multiple different female drow, resulting in an inner political and family conflict for about 10 years. On the other hand, House Sbatjss refused to follow orders given by House Duri, which eventually led to another transformation of the government. Instead of a monarchy with one supreme matriarch, the drow changed their constitution into an aristocracy. Noble families were assigned regional tasks. For further coordination, different families were allowed to join factions, the so-called "Houses". Besides that, the title of the Supreme Matriarch automatically belonged to the most influential noblewoman of all houses. This decision solved the inner political conflict just for a short time. Different families were still aiming to increase their power, influence, and wealth compared to other families of the same house. Over time, one dominating family established their position in House Duri and is ever since the leading force in House Duri.
Around 10000 b. BF., noble families of House Duri began to disagree with certain methods and decisions of the current Supreme Matriarch Ceklo, eventually resulting in the First Throne War from 9893 b. BF., till 9891 b. BF. This civil war resulted in Ceklo's cousin Mullala being victorious and claiming the title of the Supreme Matriarch. Despite her victory, many other noblewomen didn't obey Mullala and remained true to House Duri. With that, Mullala founded her own faction House Mullala and claimed the territory of southern Durarin and the islands around the Mahlstrom. For the first time, the title of the Supreme Matriarch was claimed by someone not belonging to House Duri. It is only able to reclaim the title after the Second Throne War in 5066-5064 b. BF.
In 6259 b. BF., House Duri supported House Tathryn in achieving their independence from House Mullala. That way, House Duri was able to weaken House Mullala significantly and even took control over the western regions at the war front towards the elves. After reclaiming the title of the Supreme Matriarch in 5064 b. BF., House Duri made some significant changes to give rise to their influence. One of the most remarkable events was the slaughter of Thala Vandar in 3708 b. BF. To ensure loyalty among the Skuttles, countless rat-like creatures were slaughtered by the dark executioners.
Over time, the society of drow fell apart further and further. The big subgroups were drow who were willing to fight in the war against the elves, the other one the drow who focussed on inner political quarrels and conflicts. Those two subgroups separated naturally. The aggressive, war-loving drow moved to the west and closer to the hated foe of elves. The others stayed in the eastern regions and around Thala Vandar and Greenlake. Eventually, in 3126 b. BF., the western families founded their own house and declared independence. The leading noble family Bellarpassa named the house. At first House Bellarpassa fully focussed on the war against elves, but soon their natural hostility and aggression spilled over into inner political conflicts. In 2011 b. BF., House Duri declared the Third Crown War on House Bellarpassa, looking to reintegrate them into the House. The leading matriarch of House Bellarpassa, named Obola, however, made arrangements to be prepared in such a case. Eventually, House Duri failed to overthrow Obola and the other matriarchs of House Bellarpassa.
The current matriarch of House Duri is named Yaszina.
