Guide to Other Peoples
This Encyclopedia is published in accordance with guidelines and has been checked and verified by officials of each mentioned race.The Guide to Other Peoples is widely disseminated across the universe and read by all manner of peoples, including those interested in other cultures and most of all by off-world travellers. It contains information about: the religious or spiritual beliefs and rituals; important historical events; overall political and economic systems; general social behaviours; overviews of languages and overviews of the planets or homeworlds of all dominant species that are known. Though it only contains a broad overview of species, it is considered an essential starting point for anyone looking to travel off-world and easily lends itself to further learning.
Purpose
The Guide was created in order to ease the culture shocks that arose from travelling off-world for the first time and is a part of the off-world adjustment period for most species. Though it took years to create a document that all species were satisfied by and yet was still short enough to be easily understood, it quickly replaced most other basic literature and was translated into dozens of languages and multiple mediums.

There are many guides that have published specifically to offer more extensive information about a people or planet. One of the largest is the Guide to Alcion, considering the sheer number of sentient species there and the level of secrecy that needs to be maintained by those visiting.
Historical Details
Background
For people going off-planet for the first time that don't get assistance elsewhere- essentially, civilians- it was normal for them to have to spend some time getting acquainted with the universal standards as well as those of the place they may be going to. The length and intensity of these would depend on where they were going and why; for example, people planning to emigrate would usually have to go through longer and more intensive learning, especially in consideration for those such as Vants from the planets 5 and up, who have to undergo special physical training before being allowed to visit other planets due to the gravity difference.
For more casual travellers, however, the difference in levels of information and preparation given was causing some issues due to extreme culture shock and occasionally lead to fights breaking out. Eventually, it was decided that a universal guide was needed so that everyone would get the same level of basic information at the very least.
