Albion: Time of Anarchy

Welcome to Albion, the year is 1144 A.D., it is called the ‘Time of Anarchy.’ In 1135, the White Ship sank taking King Henry’s only legitimate heir with it. Henry recognized Stephan as his heir, then promptly died. Stephan had himself crowned, but another heir, Matilda, daughter of Henry also laid claim to the crown as well. This began a civil war, exemplified by military incompetence and bad strategies on both sides. The war has been dragging on with increasing acrimony and hatred in the south, for some reason the northern ½ of Albion has been kept Civil War Free. Now for the reason why.   In 1135 King David of Scotland saw a chance to annex Cambria and Norththumbria. He almost succeeded. King Stephan in a stroke of brilliance brought in a group of mercenaries, offered them a 10 year contract to drive the Scots out of Albion, and secure the North. That was a little over 9 years ago. The mercenaries raised a Legion, trained them to the old Roman standard, called it the 9th Legion, in memorial of the old 9th “Hispaneia’ Legion. In the past 9 years, attrition bit heavily into the Mercs ranks. There is only one of the original five left alive. An acting Tribune, commanding what’s left of the Legion, trying to keep the Scots back, and keep the north stable.   Now the Factions of Stephen and Maude want the Legion gone...
