The Staff of Insects
This staff, when grasped and controlled by a highly intelligent user, can be used to command any insects within a mile radius. The users mind expands to include all those insects, and is capable of extraordinary feats of microtasking, individual action, and combined force. Built by some unknown artisan before the fall, it can be used as a terrible weapon, bringing down opponents with a million bites, or as a powerful tool of industry, weaving silk and using a million tiny arms. The original purpose is of course long lost to history, but to think of what incredible things could be done with such a tool paints an interesting picture of the time before the fall.
Currently lost somewhere in the The Sandblasted sea, where it was used by a crazed wizard to develop his own perfect society of insects, before it collapsed with the insects eating him, each other, and then themselves.

Mechanics & Inner Workings
Its inner workings are unknown even to the highest scholars. However if a user wishes to use it, they must simply grasp the staff. This will instantly connect their mind with the minds of all the surrounding insects. If this does not drive the potential wielder insane, they can then begin to command the insects with simple commands, sent telepathically. Past wielders have described a vast range of capabilities, from sending simple one word commands to all nearby insects, to individually controlling the mandibles of a fly sitting on the staff. Control seems to wax with distance. As stated though, ones mind expands into these insects, and one is capable of commanding far more than a simple human mind could at once.
