Dwarven Caravaner

Many Dwarves feel rather smug about their relative self sufficiency, and lack of connection to the "foreign" world. However, many frequently forget about the tireless dwarves trudging from mountain home to mountain home delivering those vital supplies that a single home cannot provide for itself. High quality tomes, tools, medical supplies, and even just those treats that not every home can produce are vital to the proper high level functioning of a home, and nearly all of it is carried on the backs of dwarves or domesticated Giant Goats through winding mountain passes. While small in volume, its effect, especially for the quality of life of those it serves is immesurable, while those dwarves that take up the task are often mocked and seen with derision for their unhealthy decision to spend most of their days outside the dusty mines.

Career

Qualifications

Ability to follow a map, not get too lost, survive outside a mountain, and walk for hours a day. To be truly successful, one should also be a capable merchant, good at predicting peoples wants and needs, and selling them to them at the highest price one can.

Career Progression

Typically they will start working for another caravaner, before eventually starting their own train after a few decades of walking the routes. Most will stick to a couple mountains, perhaps 2-3, making regular routes every couple months.

Other Benefits

Little to no oversight from clan parents, freedom, possible riches, and a life that isnt entirely about mining.

Perception

Social Status

It is often seen as the less honourable way to escape the dwarven system than adventuring, and so is quite dimly regarded. While dwarves are happy to trade and do buisness with a caravaner, they will never truly be part of dwarven life until they settle down and get a "proper" job.

Demographics

There are perhaps 2-3000 dwarven caravaners, making up less than 0.64% of the population.
