The Mages Guild of Albernon

Magic in all forms had been removed from the known world dozens of centuries prior in a great event known as the stifling, with it the knowledge of how to use magic, and indeed the very concept was relegated to the realm of legend and myth. However this all changed when the Star Fell, magic rushed back into the world, creatures regained their lost heritages, the earths spirits began to manifest, the gods returned and reimbued their devout with powers to fulfill their wills, and once again mortals were able to grasp the weave and change the natural world to their whim. 
With the reintroduction of magic many were in awe at new found abilities and the very idea of magic. Immediately several groups were formed to study and understand the new phenomena that were occurring, and some in an interest of gaining power through it. Through the chaos a single group eventually rose to a position of respect and power, the group known as the Mages Guild of Albernon.
The MGA was created by a group of four mages, each with a different connection and grasp of magic. A half elf woman who awoke the day after Star Fall to find that she had gained the ability to control to some extent the elements. A older scholar who was devoting his new life to cataloging and understanding arcane power words. A young halfling who since a young age had to capability of talking to animals and understood the wills of plants. And finally a young teen human who could control objects and create magical effects with his mind. Together the four of them gathered and shared their knowledge of the powers they had gained, as well as any others they had come across in their travels. Realizing that they were at the forefront of magical studies and the understanding they began to reach out and gather others with similar abilities and interests to better understand the changes they were going through. The MGA was thus founded, and quickly grew into the power which they are today, with members spanning Iqoria and Paphora. 
As the MGA grew there became an understanding there were two camps to magic, those with innate gifts, known as sorcerers or psychics depending on capabilities, and another form which would be taught and learned and mastered through understanding, wizards and bards depending on their specific method of controlling the words of power. The MGA recognized this and thus split internally into two branches, one devoted to each method. Today the MGA is at the forefront of magical understanding, and is sought after as the place to learn to control your powers, or to gain new powers through dedication and study.
