White Briar Plant

A very important plant in the Northern region of the Alben continent. It is often mistaken for a rose bush, however this plant dose not produce any flowers. The plant produces a toxin on it's thorns, this toxin has some special properties. If someone is cut by the plant and the toxin enters the blood stream, it causes burning pain for several hours at the location before it goes numb for several days. While in it's natural form it has few positive effects, some people to try and refine it into two unique solutions White Briar Poison and White Briar Toxin. Both having the ability to kill if taken in large quantities though the later was designed to paralyze parts of the body to stop pain in cases of injury or medical procedures.

Features

Roots - A dull grayish color, the thin roots spread out over a good two to three square foot area under ground.

Vines - Dark gray in color and two inches in diameter. These vines can grow to up to twenty feet long, and often criss cross around to form a bush that is around three feet tall and four wide. Or climb up other plants or buildings.

Thorns - Stark white thorns from which the plant gets it's name. These thorns grow between one to three inches long and are about a half inch in diameter at the base. These thorns secret a toxin that covers the whole thorn.

Genetics and Reproduction

These plants reproduce by replication. If you break off pieces of the root system and replant it else where it will grow into another White Briar Plant. Similarly you can take a piece of the vine and plant it some where and it can grow roots, however this is not as reliable as planting it's roots.   In nature, the roots can sprout more vines if they reach air. Vines can also grow roots if they are under the earth.

Ecology and Habitats

They live in the norther part of Alben, they live in the forests mostly and are often found winding up the trunks of the pine trees in the region.

Biological Cycle

A full White Briar Plant can grow in the matter of four months. The plant starts to grow in the early spring as the snow starts to melt. And it will go into a dormant state in the end of the first month of autumn as the weather starts to cool. The Vines will loose their strength and collapse leaving only the roots alive in a dormant state until spring.   Plants that have are grown in sheltered locations will survive all year round however, the toxins are not produced in the colder parts on the year.
