Albanwood

1981

Created by

Albanwood is a small town in North West America where almost everyone knows everyone, and it isn't often strangers come to town. The town's stunted development is due to the fact it is in a dead zone, where electronics like telephones, radios, television, and even pacemakers tend to malfunction. The inhabitants of Albanwood are accustomed to this and are unbothered by it, though outsiders tend to find it frustrating. There are many local myths that the town was built on land by people seeking to isolate themselves from the rest of civilization, as it began to spread in the 19th century. Some say the "curse" was bestowed by the Native Americans to which this land originally belonged, while others claim it was a coven of pagans seeking peace from prosecution at the hands of Christians. Some suggest perhaps it has to do with aliens.   As its name suggests, Albanwood is surrounded by a forest. The pine forest is a large component of the town, both economically and culturally. The sawmill and it's related jobs employ nearly a quarter of the town, and the people of Albanwood have their myths and urban legends about the forest. Often, strange occurances are reported happening in the forest, but many are investigated by the local police, and no official reports have concluded any supernatural events have occured within the town.   Inspiration includes the TV shows Black Spot, Equinox, the X-Files, and Twin Peaks, and the Supernatural podcast.
