Alastra

A new world is beginning

The Bright Age was an era of greatness that lasted well over nine centuries. The three realms of Alastra endured and prospered, together, in peace. In a millennium, the realms grew ever outward, building immense cities, towering castles. They built railroads to connect everyone. Electricity was discovered and implemented in all the realms. Soon, Steam engines made way to electrical ones.   The realms expanded. To make way for more people, more resources. Cities merged in one another, losing themselves in an ever-expanding complex. Soon there wasn't enough land to build on. Not enough to cultivate. The realms grew restless and soon, the continent was engulfed in war. The first war in centuries was at first fought with peasants, farmers, homeless people, but trained forces quickly grew in numbers as the war ramped up. Armaments as well. What at first was a conflict of swords quickly became a war of guns and cannons. In little more than a decade, the number of deaths grew to millions. The conflict had no end in sight and would ruin most of Alastra.   And then the Mist came.   One morning, a violet mist enveloped the whole continent in a matter of minutes. The thick, poisonous haze installed itself onto the land, killing most intelligent life in a morning. Lucky ones were those on boats, in caves, in the mountains. Most of the world in the mist, they did what they could to survive in their now limited space. Years later, the mist would subside for the first time, and the survivors would look at Alastra, green again, most of its landscape littered with the ruins of the old world. Most of the wildlife had adapted to the new reality by learning to burrow or hide in caves. Some were transformed by the mist, crystal creatures that thrive on the mist, and die soon after it retreated. The mist would rise again, and recede, in a random fashion, through the years.   Hundreds of years have passed since the end of the Bright Age. Peoples of the new world have adapted to their new reality as they could. The old world is gone, but not forgotten. Signs of it abound in the world. Old cities, now empty, a ghost of their former selves. Palaces, abandoned. Outposts and castles, signs of a past army's might. The old world is slowly vanishing.   Will you help the peoples of Alastra do more than survive?

Welcome to Alastra's homepage!

Alastra is a campaign setting that I hope to expand in the coming months. Here is what I'm hoping to provide you soon (TM). A complete guide to the world and its history, making for a strong backdrop to any campaign you would want to run, and second, a complete campaign already ready to be played for an adventurous group.
The genre I chose to work in for the project is a bit of a fusion. If I'd be pressed on trying to come up with several terms to guide you, dear reader, I'd be thinking of sword and sorcery with horror elements and past technologies that resurface in a big way later in the storyline.
The people of Alastra are rebuilding a world that was much more advanced, both technologically and magically, with only the ruins of the past guiding them. They are severely limited by the mist, an ever-present menace to both their survival and their expansion. Guided by the resurfaced Sages, the Alastrians must face the mist and learn about their past, to not repeat the mistakes of old.
