Starsingers

"The people on the NexusNet can talk about the universe being run by birds all they want... because they're right."

  • Starsingers: The Basics

Starsingers are considered the progenitors of the Akatasphere. They often appear as birds of any known species (and some more difficult to recognize), but they can assume humanoid forms of their choosing. They can be found anywhere within the Akatasphere's galaxy, as they have the ability to fly through space and between worlds without issue.   Their most notable aspect is that they are capable of becoming the "cores" of planets and world systems. The process has been described as "singing the stars into existence," hence the species's name. When they choose to support planets, they enter a stasis state that allows them to sustain the world and the beings they spawn upon it. Generally, this process makes it difficult for them to manifest corporeally upon the world, but they can communicate through dreams and visions, and there are ways to meet the Starsinger in their "core."   Starsingers know remarkably little of their origins; they believe that one primordial Genesic Starsinger created them and the Akatasphere by becoming the universe's immaterial core, much as they do with planets.

    Starsinger Life

The life functions of Starsingers vary wildly. They do not always need to eat or sleep, but often choose to as a means of bonding with the Akatasphere's people (or simply because they like to). A theory exists that their body composition skews more towards energy than biology, which is how such functions become optional. Physical injuries do not seem to faze them, but magical influences can be dangerous, particularly the world-poisoning phenomenon of the Negation, which has caused at least one Starsinger to have to destroy their nearly dead planet to avoid dying themselves.   Not even the Starsingers themselves knew that reproduction was possible until recently. The Starsinger Akata surprised everyone (and herself) by laying an egg in bird form, and the residents of the Birdhouse scrambled to build an incubator for the future hatchling. Akata's egg hatched into a baby bird; within a few days, her daughter was capable of manifesting a humanoid form that resembled a little girl. She is not yet mature enough to form worlds or travel far from the Birdhouse, but she has already expressed a talent for terraforming the space islands around the Starsinger headquarters.
