Eye Color Genetics
The allele for eye color is Z, with each individual color corresponding to a two/three letter code. The order of the eye color alleles are as follows:
- Zbla (black)
- Zgy (gray)
- Zbr (brown)
- Zha (hazel)
- Zor (orange)
- Zye (yellow)
- Zli (lime)
- Zgr (green)
- Ztu (turquoise)
- Zcy (cyan)
- Zblu (blue)
- Zin (indigo)
- Zpu (purple)
- Zpi (pink)
- If the offspring receives a Zbla allele and a Zpi allele, the offspring can exhibit any eye color on the spectrum.
- If the offspring receives a Zbla allele and a Zor allele, the offspring could have black, gray, brown, hazel, or orange eyes.
- If the offspring receives a Ztu allele and a Zpi allele, the offspring could have turquoise, cyan, blue, indigo, purple, or pink eyes.
