Honor-binds are thick, hinged golden bangles, approximately one inch tall, which when used, will mold themselves perfectly to the wearer's limb. They are used when the most important of promises are made, literally binding the two (or more) people that make it. An hour-long ritual, including laying out the terms of the promise (which, depending on how detailed they are, can frequently make the ritual take longer than an hour), causes the bangles to constrict onto the users, typically around their arm or leg, but it's not entirely unheard of for those looking to prove a point to put them around their neck. Once they are on, honor-binds may never be removed, but will come off on their own under only two circumstances: if the promise made when donning the honor-binds is fulfilled, they will crack and fall off; however, if one of the users breaks or fails to fulfill their promise, their honor-bind will turn molten and caustic, burning through flesh and bone until it severs whichever extremity it was bound to. Even those who would ordinarily be resistant to heat and acid will find that it will only make their suffering longer and more agonizing. Preparing for the use of honor-binds may last for months in order to ensure the wording is precise and agreeable to those using it.
