Waecord Basin

The Waecord Basin is home to a small but growing settlement on the bank of the Musboro River. Waecord Basin was believed to be, at one point in the distant past, a volcano. Since then, it has erupted and left the remains of the mountain in the form of a basin. The Musboro River bisects the basin and collects in a lake before spilling out over the rest of the grasslands in the region. The special thing about the Waecord basin is the confluence of nutrient rich ash, river carried sediment, and protection from winds above the basin. These things together created fertile soils that any agricultural civilization would die for. Before the basin was inhabited by people, the basin was an expansive grassland full of vibrant flowers, dark rich soil, and tall grass that was feasted on by hoofed animals, birds and insects alike. When the first bands of people reached the banks of the Musboro River, they built a village, and using seeds they had collected from various crops, began to farm. The cleared land gave way to yields of crops that would feed the village for the winter. Grains danced in the breeze, legumes grew to the size of small children, and the village prospered.

Geography

The Waecord basin is located within a larger grassland. At one point Mt. Waecord, a massive volcano, existed on the grassland. eventually the mountain erupted, leaving behind a crater where the volcano once stood. Volcanic ash covered the basin as well as some surrounding grassland and infused the soil with minerals and nutirents that are not often present at the surface. As time passed, the Musboro river carved its way through the grassland and into the basin where is formed a lake before spilling back out onto the grassland plains.
