House Rules You Should Read

-Mic Stuff-

Please, if you are eating use push to talk or or mute yourself.
I have had pets in the past. Dogs and cats are great. None of us want to hear them chew on squeaky toys. Please mute yourself if they are playing with one.   If we can hear your keyboard please raise your sensitivity.

-Skimming VS Reading-

I don't expect you to read evey single word of the over 200,000 words I have written for this world of mine. I DO however expect you to read the stuff relevent to your character. I'm happy to help you out and answer quetions, but "I sort of just skimmed it" is not an excuse to get out of negitive consequences.

-Starting Health-

All HP for level 1 is at it’s highest amount. When you level up you get a minimum of half your hitdice+con mod. If you roll under half keep rolling until you get at least half.

-Starting Languages-

You get an extra starting languages equal your Intelligence mod.

-Point Buy-

I use point buy system.

-Level 1 Background Class-

When you make your character you choose your Main Class and your Background Class. Your Main Class is the one you intend to level. Your Background Class is the one you have passively developed through your character’s history up to this point. Yes you must choose a background class, no there are not exceptions. This replaces the normal background.    Example: Sata Vredra-Sorcerer Bard   Sata was born with magical powers and worked hard during her youth to master them with the goal of getting into the world’s greatest magical university so that she may begin working in the field of her hero Umbra Locke. Sorcerer is her main class and the one she levels. However, her backstory is she grew up in and around one of the best theaters in the Darton capital. Both her parents and all her friends work in and around the theater. She assisted them as well playing bit parts, helping with practice and other such things. While she did not study to become a bard she was around the bard life style for 18 years. More than enough time to get the skills required to be a level one bard by cultural osmoses. This is her Background Class and it has some restrictions.

-Background Class restrictions-

You get everything, including the extra HP, the level one of your background class would normally give you except for the following;   • You only get one of the Saving Throws not two. If your background class does not give you different saving throws from your main class you do not get expertise in that saving throw.   • You get half the number of skill and tool proficiencies rounded down (min 1).   • Should a level 1 ability, as with the rouge class, give additional proficiencies or expertise you do get the extra proficiency and expertise but may only select from the skills and/or tools of the background class.   • Though you have this additional class level from the background class it does not count to your total level in any way and you are still concerned level 1.   • If the background class gives you cantrips or spells all spells/cantrips chosen from your background class spell list are cast at their lowest level and use the casting mod of that background class.   When you level up you are leveling up your main class, or one of your main classes should you multi class later or gain a Prestige class. You can start leveling your background class and end up making it a multi class, but doing so is restricted through story. To make a background class a main class is a significant turning point for your character.

-Feat-

Everyone starts with a single feat at level 1. It can be any feat you would normally qualify for. If you make character choices which give you a feat at start, like human variant, you may get that one as well.

-Casters-

Learn. Your. Spells.

-No Backstory-

If you want to play a character who can't remember their past and has no backstory of note that's fine, but know this means I get to do whatever I want with the backstory. Don't fuss at me if you don't end up liking it. Also, yes you must still have a background class. I will pick it.

-Asshole Characters-

If your character's main trait is that they are an asshole that's perfectly fine, but you should have another non-asshole character waiting. Odds are extremely high of them pissing off a Divine, greater spirit, powerful mage, or dragon and something bad happening to them. Being turned to stone, forced into an eternal sleep, set a flame, or just killed out right by a smite. Oh I'm sorry does that not sound fair? Well, don't make a character whose main trait is that they are an asshole. Then you won't need to worry about it. Smile. :3

-OOC Conflict-

If you have a problem with another player you deal with it. You talk to them. I'm not your father.   If, AFTER you both have talked at least once, perferably twice, and the problem is one that effects the game I will come into the conversation. If the problem doesn't effect the game then, again, I'm not your father you deal with it. We are all adults here.

-Politics-

Nothing any of your characters do are in a vacuum. The world around you has untold numbers of creatures that will feel the ripples of your actions. Understand that politics matter. I will be enforcing political and cultural consequences for your characters actions be they good or bad.

-Level Range-

You level up from the Mileage/Achievement System not through the XP number of things killed. In a full campaign your characters will, most likely, end somewhere between level 10-14 depending on choices they make and the actions that do.   Levels Reference;   1-4: They are trained, but new or basic in their line of work. Think the trade school student in his first year or two of work after becoming an adult.   5-9: These are the professionals of their class.   10-14: These are the specialists. The head of neurology or the captain of the guard.   15-16: These are those who have managed to achieve something worthy of folk hero status or are the leading minds pushing their field forward.   17-19: These are people who have done great feats or deeds worthy of a Greek Myth.   20: There is only ever 1, if 1 at all, level 20 in a class per planet. These are beings who are just shy of dieties and have achieved things worthy of such a title.

-Cultural Deviation-

Cultural Deviation is the degree to which the individual within the culture differs enough from the stereotype to warrant further investigation. Cultures with a high level of Cultural Deviation have individuals that have been touched by their culture in some way. Though they could only represent it in a aesthetic sense or check almost every box of the stereotype but strangely not hold a core belief from within the culture. These people are varied and hard to pin down in a short meeting. Humans are a good example of this.   Individuals within cultures with a Medium level of Deviation tend to carry with them a few traits that meet the idea of the stereotype of their kind, but have enough personality to keep them decently unique in the eyes of those outside of the culture. Elvs are a good example of this as the majority of elvs have an enjoyment of nature, but don't like the same types. If you were thinking of a place to take an elven date a walk in nature or to a arboretum would be a safe bet, but not a sure thing.   Individuals within a culture with Low Deviation have many unique traits and individuality among those within their culture but those outside of the culture tend to see them as stereotypes. They have so many strong similarities in the eyes of those from outside the culture that its hard to tell the cultural aspects apart from the individual. Gnomes are a good example of this. A gnome who does not like making things is unheard of. Therefore if someone were giving a gift to a gnome they didn't know personally going under the assumption that a crafting tool or crafting supply would be a good gift is correct enough of the time that the stereotype is accepted as fact.

-Magic Classifications-

Arcane, Divine, Eldritch, Nature, Primal, Pure, and Wyrd.article     associatedassociated

-Non-SRD Class Spell Lists-

If the spell can be learned by the warlock class, and does not involve Eldritch blast, witches and summoners can learn it.   If the spell can be learned by a cleric an Oracle can learn it. So long as the spell is not Divine Exclusive or goes against what you are an Oracle of. An Oracle of an Ice deity can't learn Fire spells that aren't on the Oracle spell list.   If the spell is of the necromancy type a Necromancer can learn it regardless of which spell list it is originally from. It can't learn Divine Exclusive spells though unless the Necromancer is a follower.   If the spell clearly has something to do with alchemy and is on the wizard and druid spell list an Alchemist or Artificer, with the alchemist subclass, can learn it.

-Roleplay and Creative Thinking Bonuses-

I will lower or raise DCs behind the curtain depending on your choices as your choices matter. Let me use Sata once again as an example.   Sata wanted to learn a new spell from a scroll. She is a clockwork soul sorcerer and the spell is one of Law and Order. The player roleplayed that Sata cut her hand then placed it on the scroll letting the Orderly blood of her clockwork soul mix with the magic aiding her in absorbing it As both she and this spell are of a Lawful nature. That creativity and reasoning is sound with the in world lore. Thus I lowered her DC by 1.

-Infinite Loops-

Infinite loops are not allowed. I hold the right to alter any and all abilities that would cause them. Feel free to learn those abilities and use them, just don't try and loop them or I will nerf them.

-Cleric and Paladin Rules-

Lawful, Chaotic, Neutral, Good, and Evil are primal forces of reality. The alignment system is not a measure of strict morality. If you use detect evil as an excuse to kill anyone with an evil alignment it is you who will become evil. Become a murder hobo at your own risk.   One of the first two spells learned from your chosen domain or oath may be replaced with Bless should you wish to do so. It cannot be replaced after though.   All clerics and paladins have the normal channel divinity Turn Undead feature in addition to what the domain/oath gives you.

Your Boss Can Dislike You

Clerics, Paladins, Oracles, and Warlocks all get their powers from greater entities. If you do enough “bad stuff” for Patron to become neutral to you or dislikes you your powers will be removed. See Divine Favor under the Divines tab on the main page for more information.

-Following a Divine When Not a Paladin or Cleric-

Followers of Divines do get in world bonuses and rewards for doing things of note for their Divine and also will suffer if they do to many things that go against the creeds. Just because you aren't a member of their clergy doesn't mean they don't notice you.

-Armor and Druids-

I understand the theme of the whole druids can't cast use their powers while wearing metal, but last I checked there are metals that are naturally made. A druid in this world can wear metal armor that is not a man made alloy without worry.

-Home Brew Classes From Other People-

The following are homebrew classes from other people I am fine with using in my games.   Summoner: https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Summoner,_Variant_(5e_Class) Bond of the Synthesist cannot be used. That defeats the theme.   Summoner House Rules: You may spend a single spell slot to summon your Eidolon back rather than use the ritual. The spell slot required is equal to 1/3rd your levels in summoner round down (Min 1). The spell must also come from your summoner spell list or an Eldritch spell list. Your Eidolon must have an Int of 12 or higher to speak if you wish it to do so and you must buy the 1 point Talk evolution.   Oracle: https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Oracle_(5e_Class)   You can't be an oraclel of the zodiac. Addtionally you can be an Oricle of something in this world. We can make one up or you can use one of the cannon Dvines or Forces. Ask for more info.   Witch: https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Witch_(5e_Class)   You also know Hex Speak.   Alchemist: https://www.5esrd.com/classes/3rd-party-publisher-classes/en-publishing/alchemist/   You also know Rune Flow. See the tools section in my world for more info.   Necromancer: https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Necromancer_%285e_Class%29   You also know Hex Speak.
