Spheres of Existence

Note: this is a fictionalized version of the planar system that incorporates multiple different mythologies and cosmologies, including Theosophism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Sufism, Norse, Druze, Jainism, Gnosticism, Kabbalah, the Fourth Way, and Hinduism.   The seven spheres of existence are as follows, starting at the outermost and going inward:
  1. Material sphere (physical + etheric)
  2. Astral sphere
  3. Sacred sphere
  4. Unity sphere

Material sphere

The material plane consists of the visible reality of space, time, energy, and matter. It includes two different layers: the physical plane and the etheric plane. The physical plane is made up of solid objects, and the etheric plane is made up of magic. Ether can be visible to normal mortals if it is given physical form.   Not all Whims can see ether, and some humans can. For mortal beings, their souls are usually located in the etheric plane, as long as their physical body is conscious. For Whims that use magic or their own inherent powers to change their appearance, they draw ether to either augment their physical form or actually change its properties.   When a mortal being's physical body dies, their soul is supposed to go to the astral plane. If something is keeping it trapped, it remains on the material plane as a ghost. Some ghosts are unable to interact with the physical plane, but if they are able to manipulate ether, they can become physical for a period of time.

Astral sphere

The astral plane is a complex immaterial realm that is home to spirits, including the souls of mortals when they are either before life or after death. Living souls can temporarily visit the astral plane via dreaming or meditation. With training, a mortal can astrally project their soul elsewhere in reality, even on other planes. Even if your soul is located on another plane, you can use the astral plane to talk. Most afterworlds    Representations of the astral plane in various religions include the Otherworld, Annwn, Tír na nÓg, Elysium, Valhalla, Folkvangr, Hel, Niflhel, sheol, Hades, etc.

Sacred sphere

The sacred sphere is where all the miscellaneous gods, devils, angels, and demons of different religions live.     The logoic plane is where one attains total oneness with the Creator. The logoic plane is, essentially, the Creator itself. Each plane has its own consciousness, but the way it works is totally unfathomable to lesser beings.
