Kingdom and Lands of Cimyra

"The Kingdom, long divided, must unite; long united, must divide. Thus it has ever been."

Structure

While de jure a unified centralized hereditary monarchy, the Cimyran lands are anything but in its current state, splintered between petty fiefs and powerful noble houses vying for power.

Assets

Most Cimyrans live off the fertile soil of the plains or the bountiful waters of the coast, but there is also those who practice mining, forestry and even the aquisition of Old Magic (though the interest in this profitable but risky trade waxes and wanes due to a multitude of reasons).

History

Cimyra has a long tradition as a unified political and cultural entity, but it also has a history of splintering apart in times of political instability. Scholars theorize that the area was first settled by tribes from the southern part of the continent in what is now part of the dragondoms, establishing small villages and tribal holding that would slowly consolidate into the first Cimyran Kingdom under King Brais Draigcwyn after he slew the dragon Rock-Breaker Great-Jaw, earning his family name in the process. This first era of stable rule lasted several generations before the invasion of the Burning Fleet, a vast army of outlaws and raiders driven from the nearby island of Titenfisca onto the shores of Cimyra. The fleet quickly seized large swathes of the coast and proceeded to pillage the surronding lands, effectively splitting the nation in two.   An attempted counter-offensive led by King Brais III was cut short when the king and many in the nobility met their death at the battle of Fin's crossing, leading to a sucession dispute and the ascencion of the Madfall dynasty under king Cadar of Madfall following a civil war, shattering the kingdom for the first time since its unification. After several decades of campaigning and rebellion the last of the Burners were subjugated during the reign of Ilwynog of Madfall, the realm was united once more.   The reign of house Madfall would not last long however, as Cadar III would be poisoned by his steward just three generations later, triggering a war between the Houses of Haearn and Madfall over both the throne and the control of the immensely profitable trade of Old Magic. In the end, Haearn would prevail under the leadership of Glöwr of Haearn, establishing the longest reigning dynasty in Cimyran history.   This would finally end with the rapid advance of the Enlightened Empire in the north and the subsequent establishment of the Margraviate of Fuilfata with the sole duty of protecting the northern border, turning the entire province into something resembling a giant military camp. As tensions eased and the border settled, the Margrave Cleddyf of Fuilfata began clamoring for control of the Old Magic trade, establishing his claim by marrying his cousin, Princess Flodyn of Gloddfa. He arranged for the king to perish during a "hunting trip" with some of his relatives and marched towards the crownlands, only to find his way blocked by an army under the banner of House Maer, who had learned of the kings assasination and decided to attempt the same thing. The king was not actually dead however and had now gotten safely into Haearn lands. What started as a divide between three houses soon grew to fracture the entire kingdom, with many local lords with realms of varying sizes now striving for either the throne, independence or simply a larger slice of the gains than their rivals once the war is over, wich as of the time of writing has gone on for ten years with no prospective winner on the horizon.

Territories

Religion

A majority of Cimyrans practice ancestor worship, with most of the foreign diaspora sticking to the faith of their home region, but there is also a cult dedicated to King Brais the first that is rather prominent in the southern parts of the realm, as well as a widespread worship of the Sea Queen (Also know as the sea Mother) among sailors, shipbuilders and fishermen.
